The biggest security problem in any computer will always be the person sitting at the keyboard unfortunately. No matter what browser or OS you use , if you click to download something that is a virus or spyware you're going to get it..
Fortunately most of us that use alternatives to Windows or IE tend to know enough not to do such things so of course we dont see so many issues.
The biggest reason for me is Games.. None of the games I play are available on MAC or Linux at this point. I have secondary PCs I mess with with Linux on them but my "gaming rig" is Windows based and will most likely continue to be until all games I want to play can be played natively on Linux.
I used to work for dell (up till 2 months ago)tech support tier 2 software support and I can tell you at that time it was much much higher than 20% of our calls where spyware related. I'd venture it was more than 50% of the calls to us was a problem caused by spyware.
I have a 94 Probe GT and I get an average of 27.5 MPG, which from everything I can find, is higher than that cars Highway rating from the sticker.
I dont exactly light foot it either, but I dont race around like some folks. I drive about 1/3 city and 2/3 highway in my daily travels.
