But ebooks really do cost lest that physical books.
In India, most of the textbooks are dirt cheap, even the printing costs are subsidised. this is atleast true.
The reason is , in India, most of the books are written by writers commissioned by the government. So once they have written it , there is nothing such as author's royalty etc. etc. So I guess the ebooks can be really cheap.
The image results should really be in a sidepane just below wikipedia results and wikipedia results that are shown on the side should be limited to 2 max.
I searched for Katie Holmes and got "Katie Holmes Peer Reviewed" lol.
The images at the bottom dont make much of a sense to me. But I guess they have to keep the sidespace free for "Sponsored Results".
Yeah I am worried!
The thing is : I think Google is expanding tooo much too fast. History is littered with corps that tried to expand too fast and were squatted out like a fly.
Although I dont think this will happen with Google.
But I think u r right! The quality of their core services WILL decline over time, ironically when they are really facing competition.

ironic that FireFox doesn't display slashdot.org correctly!
This very project is Doomed from the start cos of the HIGH prices. Yeah high
In India tickets for movies in a good quality theatre in urban areas hover around $1.5 to $2. Thus Indians for one would never buy from here. Cam prints VCD's are available at 1$. After some days of release good quality ones are also available. Still at $1. Why would I pay $5 ? After DVD's are realeased , pirated DVD's ripped off the orignal DVD's available for $4.
Regarding Old movies; VCD's for these are available for $1.5 (orignals). NO sane Indian guy would buy these.
Another problem is broadband that is required. In India broadband is a myth. The recently launched ADSL services have a limit of 400MB for home users.
Only the Indian Diaspora would buy this. But I think they would still prefer buying DVDs. But still lets seee.(sorry for poor English)
By the way U guys have got it alll wrong. If you wanna see hot Indian chicks you will need to see Music Videos. Films have verrry verry low hot content. Aishwarya Rai hasn't performed a Single decent kissing scene on Screen till this day.

Then I tried 'Googol' on search and It didn't suggest 'Google' to me. I thought they would keep that much as a kind of legacy....:)

I know this is lame....
Hey,
This article is mostly ripped off from an Economic Times.com article. They had written it just after the Bazee incident.
Hm, Maybe should report Wired News to the Mumbai CyberCrime Cell.

Sorry couldn't find the link cos the economictimes.com search page was down while I typed this. U can try and search. I get the paper everyday so I am sure about it being ripped off.
hey,
QTime is much more annoying than Real Player. It always ask u to upgrade to Pro version etc etc while all I want to do is watch the video. Then again it has a weird interface (for a winamp/WMP user).
Real Player is irritatin but that must be cos u r not using Reeal One Player that is good enough.

Look you dont know India thats why u r sayin this
Yeah the amount of corruption has gone down but the state in question "UP" is considered to be one of the most corrupted in India second maybe after Bihar.
Do u know why they dont have Electricity?
Its not that hard cos they are right besides the nearly all the coal fired Power Stations in India. The mighty river of Ganga flows through the state and they are right besides the himalayas. And the IMF and WB were happy to give loans b4. But the politicians kept pocketing the money. And the problem just keeps getting worse.
Consider the very fact that they were stupid enough to buy computers for the primary schools that dont have electricity. After that they thought of electricity. think about the farmer who has to carry water cos there's no power for pumps but his kids playing on the comp.
Lets not be Happy. Lets first make sure that all have food water and shelter. Then lets go to the comps.....
Knowing the political situation in UP I wouldn't think much of this venture. Its more probably all hype and wont work out.... Sad but thats how things work.

I live in India.
I'm a suscriber to the http://wwww.relianceinfo.com/Reliance Network and as such I am able to get STREAMING LIVE TV on my mobile for FREE.
They have implemented the CDMA technology.
As far as some of you are concerned about the sound quality, Qualcomm recently http://www.pmn.co.uk/20040623qsound.shtmllicensed qsound which allows surround like sound on ones own mobile phones. This will soon be coming to this service I am assured.
I agree the size of screen is small. But comeon guys it is worth looking into. And as slowly the picture quality on mobile phones improve I am sure this would become very common.
