usually the solutions that work best are the most compatible with the least amount of effort, and cost yourself and your customers the least amount of money. Where do you think any MS solution lies with that.
what do you call "Subverting an international commitee" (re: OOXML fiasco)? is that flamebait? If so, what isn't flamebait? When GPL advocates just roll over dead? Or when MS's proprietary specifications become world standards at the behest of MS? color me confused.
deafies aren't the only ones who want captioning, but I do support it. There are lots of times where I'd like youtube muted and/or if they had captions in another language it would ease translation, and also enable youtube to be a useful teaching tool for other languages. Meanwhile I'd rather see ogg as an option over H264. H264 is an improvement over flash, but that issue will rage on for a while.
Not only do they track you, but it can cost you money.
Note: I'm not defending google, I'm just showing that people are just screaming for anything they can to make them sound evil and absconding logic in the process.
the reason they are losing relevance is because they chose to give up relevance in doing their newswork.
Instead of articles covering issues with the government we get tiger woods, britney spears smeared all over the front page. That would be, you know irrelevant as a news company yet every one of them, times included, does that.
So really, they're just speeding up the result of their own decision. good riddance.
it does, however, share the same vuln with IE7 and IE8. So maybe it's more appropriate as "microsoft's web browser" (irrespective of version) is at fault.
news flash: anon doesn't know what they're talking about. Why wouldn't someone want a library of DVD's on their computer? Do I want to simply hunt down a disc buried in a pile in my collection? Or do you have a problem with legally backing up cd's?
hahahaha if only I had mod points. I agree, and most people have h.264 support out the door on most pc's nowadays. Hell I hear more complaints about "it's not doing hardware h.264" than I do about whether or not people know what it is.
what exactly are you talking about? I want a physical keyboard. I am not going to buy a phone that is touchscreen only, and such a concept doesn't work for me.
I didn't mean "bad quality touchscreen", i mean "make a goddamn snapdragon phone with a keyboard so I can give you my money HTC".
If you're focusing on his one lanky point, then you're missing the point of the article: which is that a LOT of things are messed up on android.
In reality he is concerned about google's lack of actual open source - since apache is like BSD license, guess what happens? The important pieces are kept proprietary in the code, and that creates problems.
the other programming issues and google quirks were equally very accurate. Fragmentation and having piss poor hardware except for a couple phones is also an issue.
From the G1 in comparison to every android phone since and the nexus one of now, every phone has been basically creeping closer to iphone performance...now they finally have better hardware, but on a shitty touchscreen.
Google has a lot to fix, and I don't know the answers. Open sourcing their maps and other currently locked down apps would be a good start.
likewise, thanks to apple's strict control having useful applications is also far unlikely to happen. How are those google apps going on your iphone? Oh right, you started a flamebait discussion and tried to literally equate that open development equals a lack of security. goood job. Meanwhile, open development also equates to actual security, not falsely believing that apple is magically secure or likewise with windows. Security through obscurity is called delusion.
It's got great potential and a ton of functionality for a $200 unit. This is a stab at netbooks (cost/size), cellphones (3g/bluetooth), intel(arm) and microsoft(chrome).
Now google does their own questionable things sometimes, but a hit at those first 4 is a pretty good sign of some real competition.
I still am amazed if that document is true about the $5 just to put it on people's PCs. This is marginally better than "Forced optimization" until people realize they're probably charging extra just to put this best buy installer on the pc.
I am not 100%, but I'll bet there's a charge for "setting up the best buy installer".
wha? No corporation is going to threaten you. Why would they even bother when they can go to the government and get things regulated via regulatory capture? Don't get me wrong, I think the government does certain things well, and they have an impossibly high bar to maintain (which they will never be sufficient of).
However, I don't see your point about the 30 years comment. The comment was a summation of the changes - although technology has changed (and significantly), the pricing tricks for TV's haven't changed in years. It goes back further than 30 years, but I don't see a need to bother reminding people of this.
I guess you don't understand price manipulation. It's not at all about what tech is added. Everyone knows technology gets better, but you need to pay attention to when price is manipulated deliberately. Watch prices skyrocket when 3d is released.
what *are* you talking about? I happen to have family and friends who worked for about every major TV manufacturer under the sun from management up the chain and what I have explained has been true across the board.
Nobody said new things aren't engineered, or aren't improved. If you're focusing on that, then you don't understand squat about business. You lost your focus in your attempted ad hominem stuff by about your second paragraph.
I actually deal with engineering and development as part of my job, so spare me your bs. You're also 100% retarded when it comes to thinking that LCD's come from a wide variety of manufacturers. Just because a manufacturer knows how to make more than one (SHOCK! AWE!) doesn't mean that multiple manufacturers make it.
Example: there are lots of parts that samsung, panasonic, sony and many other companies have an effective monopoly on. They're the only ones who make them. This isn't just an LCD thing, go look at who makes disc drive laser diodes or any other components.
My argument outside the universe.
Try to be a bit more rational instead of insulting me when you aren't even reading critically.
ps2 and ps3 are not similar at all. Look at PS3 at the different hard drive sizes and the actual cost of those hard drives, and then you are more accurate. You're overthinking.
usually the solutions that work best are the most compatible with the least amount of effort, and cost yourself and your customers the least amount of money. Where do you think any MS solution lies with that.
hint: in the long run, it doesn't.
what do you call "Subverting an international commitee" (re: OOXML fiasco)? is that flamebait? If so, what isn't flamebait? When GPL advocates just roll over dead? Or when MS's proprietary specifications become world standards at the behest of MS? color me confused.

well, I knew MS was deep rooted at slashdot, but I didn't know they employed people in the 7000 UID.
What's worse, MySQL being kept alive by oracle, or being owned by MS? Oh right, lets decry MySQL supposedly dying.
well, you have a point. My ire is not really aimed exclusively at the times, but I fail to see a reason to need the times, paywall or not.
I get more accurate, and more entertaining news aggregation from fark than I do from the NYT. I also get a much more sanitized layout that way.
sorry, I forgot the /a after the link. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20091114/1839216938.shtml
last you checked? you might want to check again.

it's all a MS thing. You don't hear this level of frezy about bing or yahoo, do ya? You don't even have an opt out from bing, as far as I can see.
trying to expect people to understand IT (when they're not) is like trying to get a traditional business to understand customer service.
Both get shafted on being given the funds understanding they need, and welp. wouldn't you know everyone's pissed.
The answer is: do a shitty job in IT and/or customer service, and your company's going to have a tough time.
it does, however, share the same vuln with IE7 and IE8. So maybe it's more appropriate as "microsoft's web browser" (irrespective of version) is at fault.

either way, bad anon, bad.
they're all thieves, and you might have to use force to stop them from using your oxygen supply.
