(besides all the spyware and slightly distasteful popups that could go against corporate internet usage policies.(I'm sure they could make an exception since google pulls up a lot of those pornographic based sites depending on your search)

  4. Criminal Charges= CAN-SPAM Civil from Ohio on Ohio Law Could Send Spammers To Jail · · Score: 3, Interesting
This is an extention of the CAN-SPAM act.
    (H) The attorney general may bring a civil action, pursuant to the "CAN-SPAM Act of 2003," Pub. L. No. 108-187, 117 Stat. 2699, 15 U.S.C. 7701 et seq., on behalf of the residents of the state in a district court of the United States that has jurisdiction for a violation of the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, but the attorney general shall not bring a civil action under both this division and division (F) of this section. If a federal court dismisses a civil action brought under this division for reasons other than upon the merits, a civil action may be brought under division (F) of this section in the appropriate court of common pleas of this state.

Additional civil cases may be personally filed with the state over spam. This is stating that the attorney general has no judical power in the courts of Ohio. Such as the normal separtation of state and federal branches and laws. If the federal goverment fails to honor the CAN-SPAM act. You can still seek compensation through civil action through Ohio court.
Good news for me, however it is hard to say if this will help. I can see ISP rates going up due to increased labor with judical action requesting for records.

  6. Choices..... on Green Hills Software Decides Linux Isn't So Bad · · Score: 1

Choices in OS can be simple or hard. Some love linux and some don't and that makes up their mind. Others go about budgets and numbers to make decisions. Sometimes these can be inflated just to cover costs but under overall expectations of management. I don't see a problem with linux, it is quite different to other systems such as Windows or even Solaris for servers and user terminals. As far as some see functionallity. Just remember everything has good and bad. Windows has thousands apon thousands of bugs, virus, and compatability issues. Personally I use XP. It is ok but high maintenance at time. When I use linux, I choose SuSE. Patches come out as frequently if not more for it than Windows, but highly customizable. It depends on multiple factors. People can hack Linux, Windows and in some cases Mac. It is computer nature to have some problems because humans who can make choices and mistakes created it.

I am currently a Best Buy Technician, as well as a former computer sales peon. I remember giving service plan speaches about the only 5 things it covers. Dust, Heat, Humidity, Normal wear and tear, and power surges. Now I have seen my coworkers press and drag their fingers acrossed an lcd screen saying "See there is water behind this, if it breaks the service can fix it" I was almost wanting to beat him for doing that to a monitor, not to mention it only covers failing pixels (normal wear). If you cause the damage even accidental, it is abuse and the service wont cover it. I as a techinican now can tell which customers will give that line of they told me it will fix anything. For some it was the only way to sell them. I had no problems and I never lied about it. I think it is nice how people bring in computers and have a service plan and want their windows cleaned up from a virus or spyware. It only covers physical parts, not windows. I have come to the conclusion the only people that know about the issues of the product speciallists are the technicians correcting their service plan problems. I get yelled at on a weekly basis and all I can say is that it happens. I cant change policy even though it might need to happen.

  17. RIAA Letter on RIAA Sends Letter to Senate Supporting INDUCE Act · · Score: 1
My industry can continue to sue users, many of them kids, to establish deterrence and educate the public. But the real villains are not the kids. The real villains are those profiteers who offload liability on these kids and are laughing all the way to the bank as American courts struggle to apply existing law (or misapply it) to this abuse of good technology.
Yes, you continue to sue Kids in order to promote your own agenda. Yes, This is GOOD technology you just take actions in a completely terrible way because you do not understand how much the industry is driven by concert sales and merchendise....
Ironically, these P2P operators who hide behind the protective cover of "technology," resist deploying existing technological answers to solve this problem. They resist modernization because it undercuts their business model.
No, this this because it takes time to create new software as well as they are protecting information in general. NOT your music industry. People can print books post on the web and do as they please, Technology is not ment to restrict these. People have the choice to use this technology incorrrectly, but at the present time, people are willing to do this to end a organization set out to steel profits from the artists.
We take profits from sales - when we're good and lucky enough to get them - and plow money back into the search for that next great talent who will thrill music fans around the globe.
Does this say anything about giving artists the moeny they deserve by selling THEIR MUSIC? NO They get this money by the music created by the artists and they dont get a dime of their recorded album.
My companies make money almost exclusively from the sale of our creative product. We don't have a performance right on radio and therefore derive no income from radio play. We don't make money from artist tours or merchandise. We don't make money from endorsements of other products. We just sell recorded music.
Artist get money from concerts and merchendise THAT YOU RIAA do not take in profit or see at all. You sell music yes but the artist who made it see NOTHING. All of this is banked and given to the oranization for their own use. Mainly attorney fees.
From a user experience, there is no meaningful distinction between centralized and de-centralized file sharing. From a victim experience, the impact is the same. In both cases, it's identical to someone walking into a store, taking some CDs off the shelf, and walking out of the store without paying for them.
Well The artist dont see a dime from this album anyway. It only hurts your profits NOT THEIRS. Personally would I steal. NO. Would I be willing to end a corporation that does nothing but LEECH OFF THE ARISTS OWN TALENTS? YES!!! doe that mean not buying CDs? YES... Now have I bought them. Yes I have but on rare occassion. The most Cds I have are about 12.... TOTAL. I do have a legitimate service I am using, Rhapsody. Would I like to kill the RIAA? YES... If that Means using Bitttorrent and other Programs? Possibly, without a great risk. On this Issue I am all for the EFF and the End of the RIAA.
