*sigh* Who is it that keeps spreading the rumor that Advent Children is an exclusive PSP (UMD) release?
For the record: it is also being released on this nifty format called DVD, which is cheaper, higher resolution and can be played on your TV*! Check it out you might like it!
*DVD player required. Do not taunt happy fun ball!
No, However Square-Enix is making several spin-offs of FF7.
Dirge of Cerberus: Is a Devil May Cry style game for the PS2 where you play as Vincent Valentine.
Before Crisis: Is an RPG for mobile phones that has you playing as the Turks. Takes place 6 years before FF7.
Crisis Core: For the PSP. No details on this one. It's rumored to be an action RPG where you play as one of the members of SOLDIER, and Cloud's friend Zach.
Final Fantasy: Advent Children, a movie that takes place 2 years after the last battle with Sephiroth. The site you linked to has pictures from it.
If you haven't seen the trailers for Advent Children, I'd highly recommend checking them out. http://na.square-enix.com/dvd/ff7ac/
In the trailers section, trailer 2 is the one they just released at the E3. Unfortunately you need flash to play them.:( Honestly I'd have to say it's worth it!
Also during Sony'y E3 press conference Square had a PS3 tech demo of the FF7 CG opening running in real time with better character models than the original CG. It's just a tech demo like the FF8 dance scene they had to show off the PS2 hardware so I wouldn't expect anything to come from it.
I know of one good way to test out the ghosting on a LCD at the store without bringing anything in, if you can get to the desktop that is.
Goto Start>RUN and type dxdiag. Click on the display tab and run the Direct 3D test. (spinning cube with directx on it)
With the good monitors you will be able to read the text on the sides of the cube with no problem (the text will stay sharp and clear), but with the majority of the ones I've seen it'll be hard to read (a blurry streaking mess! ^_^)
They both have some problems with certain DVDs and neither of them can display movies in progressive scan. Which BTW, if you're getting an HDTV I'd highly suggest you get a progressive scan capable DVD player.
Your best bet would be to goto (insert name of electronic store) and pick up a stand alone progressive scan dvd player for $50-$60. Then buy the console that has the games you want to play. (from what you said it sounds like you would like a PS2)

Alright. Its saturday night. I have no date, a 2 litre bottle of shasta and my all rush mix tape. Lets rock!
Informative, but one correction.
The Gamecube isn't listed as GCN. It's listed as it's codename "Dolphin" DOL-XXX.
Looking at Metroid Prime 2, it's: DOL P G2ME
Anyone know what AGS stands for on the Game Boy SP?

Well, a quick google search and here's what I found out.
;)
Version SCPH5000 and later support it for DVDs. Earlier versions don't.
So if you're going to buy a ps2 there ya go. Altho, I'd still say buy a stand alone DVD player.
I wouldn't recommend either one for a DVD player.
