NO!!! That's exactly what keeps the two-party system going long after it should have disappeared.
And can you tell me how to download it? The link you give goes to a page about a 14 day free trial of a paid-for player, which opens a popup ad about said 14 day free trial of paid-for player. Clicking the realplayer link and insisting I want the free player enough gets me a windows executable of what I hope is the free version.
This is not a troll. I really would like to download it.
Thanks, fixed now, for some reason the router doesn't like being a dhcp server...or client as it happens. I know css makes sense in the long run, but I know that all the "average" people I know cannot use it, wheras they could write basic html 3 fine. The one friend I have who uses css quickly gave up following the standards as they are just too confusing, and just goes based on what it looks like in IE. Your experience may be totally different, of course.
CSS makes design so much easier
I have to call bullshit on this one. Having <FONT> to change font, <B> to make text bold, <I> for italics is *far* more intelligible than the css way of doing things. "Average Joe" can use them no problem. I can't change a font in the "proper" css way, and I can write C in my sleep.
No, it doesn't. Html 3.0 was easy for new people because the tags had sensible names which reflected what they did. Average Joe could see where the names come from.
for paragraph. for heading 1. for image. for font. and for bold and italics. I still use these tags because they *make sense*. I can never understand what I'm supposed to do these days instead of.
Try apollon. Uses giFT to connect to multiple p2p networks, easy installer, very nice UI with the more recent versions, and seems to have some way of avoiding the riaa fake versions. Certainly I've never got a fake off it.
But what will happen to slackware? It's the oldest distro around, and it's done by ONE MAN. How do you expect one man to be able to stabilise the kernel entirely by himself? I for one will be very sad when slackware dies.
Pat has always (iirc) refused to ship a new kernel until there's a separate development branch. Because he knows it won't be stable. And ime with 2.6, this is entirely justified. So pat will probably ship 2.4 for a while. And all those who want a stable system will thank him.
Don't you forget that many of them merely want to play cheaper games from the US. And, stopping them from doing so is actually illegal under EU trade legislation. Sony has no right to exploit cheap labour abroad and then charge me £20 more for a videogame just because I live where I do.
Honestly, I read Slashdot daily, but I'll never understand the peculiar Flash-Is-Evil bias. Yes, there are annoying ads that use it. There are also annoying ads that use animated GIF, and even HTML. It's just a tool, folks, and like the song says, every tool is a weapon if you hold it right.
But 98% of flash is annoying ads, and the rest is mostly animations which are funny the first time but get annoying after 5 or so. Try disabling flash some time. See how long you can live without the dancing badgers. You may well find that your browsing experience is a lot faster and pleasanter. I certainly do.
I have a shiny sixpence here that says you have a VIA, i8x0 or other such insanely bad integrated sound device.
I'll take you up on that. My onboard via 82c686b and laptop i810 were autodetected no problem in *slackware* for goodness' sake, just had to unmute them in alsamixer and can play sounds no problem. IME it's the cheap soundblasters which are the hardest to get working.

Oh come on. My 3-year-old Duron has that option.

The "web-safe" variant uses them in place of some other characters that certain OSes don't like, iirc.
