Hmmm, quite interesting. I didn't realize their effort had been continuing for so long. However, is 'purity' merely subjective to their collective opinions? Look at the case of courriel. what they do seems to be reactionary, and not necessarily suited to anything but their own ambitions.
Sanskrit in its classical form had much the same problem with vedic sanskrit. The outer edges of the Roman empire faced constant influence for the germanic languages. Both gave way to modern languages like hindi gujarati, and the 'romance' languages respectively.
Side note, you do realize French (along with Spanish and Italian) is decended from Latin, right?
My point exactly. It CAME from latin, so it does no good to compare it to latin.
Oh, and don't forget romanian.
Sure, cap.s are important. When read, they can help with garden-path sentences, and the like.
Context takes the place of grammar in cases where there is no grammar to mark concepts. You are right to note japanese, as it has its many particles. Not sure why you bring up french. By age, it doesn't nearly fit into the same class as Sanskrit or Latin even...
You are missing the point. The only 'wrong' grammar results in ambiguity. If, in your example, the party being addressed could not carry out the desired action, then there is a breakdown in communication. The ability for language, and grammar, to be agile in this fashion allows us the freedom to create AND UNDERSTAND dialects over time. Look at language purification attempts of the past: Sanskrit, Latin, and some others to be sure. It doesn't work, and should not be expected to.
And what happens when you want to blink...I'm not sure about the rest of the community, but reading different news sites during the day *cough* slashdot *cough* strains my eyes already. I couldn't imagine having to decide between blinking and scrolling, clicking, etc.
I'll probably stick with carpal tunnel. Leave my eyes alone.
The first Final Fantasy game was the company's last-ditch effort into making games, back in the early years. Thus, it WAS their final fantasy, or last hope, if you will.
The fact that it has been followed up indefinitely is just a consequence of its initial success. Guaranteed, the name's irony won't continue forever, but at least we're enjoying the fruits of their labor for now.
and leisure to develop agriculture and technology.
Well, not quite. I think a more accurate statement would be that by becomming a better competing predator, we were more able to exploit the available prey, thus increasing our numbers to a point where sedentary living became advantageous. Where does the hungry hunter gatherer go when violent cousins live on every ridge? Not too far...
But, then again, this all occured much later in our history, farming and advanced weaponry. Our ancestors had been walking for some time, already, for whatever reason.
Which brings us back to the original question, doesn't it?
Actually,
I think Oregon Trail doesn't count. Sure, it was "old school" (1840's old school), but those were some pretty trail-wise people back then. That, and it had damn decent graphics for its day IMHO.
Really tho, I noticed this trend. Is it trully worse than the series of war games the industry tries to revisit so often? Just a phase...they come and go.
