    in production you would have 2x boxes and use carp to fail from one to the other. Also you wouldnt do it in the middle of the day, but in off peak hours. Additionally you dont run all the eggs in one basket so to say.

    gee thats lame... the whole point of buying the CD's is to get the compiled packages... that and to know I'm supporting the 'cause'... OTOH dont get me started about cheap fucks that wont even kick in $5 USD, but are pouncing on the ftp servers now.....

    Thses jokers can't wait to outsource it or send if overseas. Its no small shock that kids are like whoa the IBM that just laid of 13,000 jobs? yeah Im going to invest 4+ years and $30-120,000 in that degree so that I can be a Walmart greeter.

    What do we make in North America again? Can anyone remind me, because all I see is consumers, we dont make anything anymore, and if you make more than $5.00 USD an hour doing something other than yard work, they are dying to send that job overseas.

    Now the only 'good' part of this is that it's equalizing the worlds wealth, but we (North Americans) are about to be largely poor... Which sucks...

    Oh how true! Balmer (Monkey boy) had it right the 1st time. Developers, developers, developers, developers, developers, developers!!!!!!!

    That and OEM bundeling has established Microsoft. Also the way they hold out, all development on *their* platforms. Sure they dable every now & then, but it all goes back to MS. And $100 isnt that much for a compiler with docs. How much was Cset?! Oh although Next screwed up with the compiler bundeling, thankfully as Apple they throw in the compilers now for free. (way to go!)

    Yes and we used to have LIM EMS back in the day. The difference is that this is LINEAR.. its still 4 gig.

    Ok, now try going to a new company that has a 'legacy' tape drawer. The dont even know if it was netware, nt, unix or vms that made the tapes. Not to mention they had 2 sets and constantly went back & forth on them.. guess what? plenty of bad reads on those tapes....

    Bottom line is tapes suck.

    The really scarry part is data retention.. Most US companies need to keep 7 years of backups, but have you ever tried to restore a 7 year old tape? Its like impossible.
