1. No, dude. I don't believe mono runs in a hidden copy of windows. What i meant is that both OS implementations require a service which translate to machine language more or less realtime. To boot itself into his own bootstraps using C# is very interesting, but will require compiled stuff at least for the bootloader, the virtual machine and at least the beginning of the process manager. Interesting but complex.
2. You don't seem to realize how many times more instructions you need for a system like this in comparisson to a plain c version. It's not only a bit slower, it's a lot slower. (oh, by the way, try to make a browser and word run at the same on a pc without an OS, and tell me how well you did without disk driver, memory mgr, process mgr, video drivers and other io drivers)
From the singularity home page: "Singularity: A research OS written in C#"
1) How can you write an OS in C#, if C# is by def. an OS dependent language? 2) Mmmh, that virtual machine stuff doesn't it make it a liiiitle bit slower?
Anybody knows how this thing works? I mean, I understand you can use LVM to bind together the 4 hd in the same computer as a logical Volume, but how do you put together devices from many nodes (computers) as a single logical volume?
Object Oriented Programming worked because we had speed to spare, but thats over. Of course concurrency will be more important now, but the code will also have to be optimized. Goodbye C++, java, welcome back C.
It's amazing how they can turn a talented, although with obvious problems kid, into an outwright criminal. He is 18, for God's sake!!
hehe. true! Reminds me of the magritte painting. http://www.topo.ucl.ac.be/images/magritte.trahison .gif

Yoyos are cool. I enjoyed them a lot, and I think kids could still like'em.
