I am not a MS fanboy, I hate the bastards, with good reason. (Programmer since Dos 3.3 days)
However, they do have great experience in OS, they have experimented with touch computing (that table they put out last year), they have experience with media as well (think Zune).
They could do this. They probably won't, but they could. It might not be as seemless as Apple, but the new Zune HD is not that bad from all accounts.
One day Microsoft will get there act together, start acting like on company with a unified division.
Yeah, but they don't control it. And you can bet they won't integrate it to work with Zune. They want compelte control, they want there own version. This has been a huge bonus for Apple.
Apple are going to release a tablet, there is no argument about that. It could do very well, ala iPhone, or it could crash and burn.
Microsoft would rather it crashed and burnt. If anyony out there is going to make money on this, MS wants it to be them. This is only natural.
Microsoft have experience in pre-announcing products before competitors in the past, see the OS/2 wars.
You judgement is clouded by your Apple Fanboys hate. If it was only for the Apple fanboys, Apple would have died a long time ago. There are a lot of people who buy Apple these days, witht their iPod and iPhone lines.
It isn't about a product existing, don't you get that now. It was the same before the iPhone but even more so now. An Apple announcement is huge, becuase they have had huge payoffs with iPod/iPhone.
You are a fucking tool if you don't understand this. Hype is worth a lot.
Microsoft has loads of cash, from Windows and Office.
They can even pay this back to shareholders, or they can invest in themselves to enter other markets, and get more revenue streams.
Apple have managed to do this with their ipod and now iPhone range. Microsoft have tried to do it with Xbox, but have not produced a profit yet. They have probably done it with.Net and Visual Studio. They certainly have done it with SQL Server and Windows Server. They failed with the Zune, but that still might pan out for them.
This is basic stuff, why some people on here can't understand this is beyond me.
If they lost $4 Billion be the end of 2005, and they only posted a profit in 2008, plus the $1 billion write off (which isn't exactly the same as a loss), that means they would probably even owe more than the $5 billion. Unless they were exactly breaking even for 2006, 2007, start of 2008.
So I agree, xbox has going to be a big waste of money, unless they start making money pretty soon. Which, with there new integreated platform plans they might just.
You don't need to go through apple for your own companies applications. If you have an enterprise account, you can push your applications directly to iPhone without the appstore.
Of course, this is still harder than Apple has made it. There are advantages and disadvantages to both systems. I wonder if Googles openness will backfire.
I am critical because just the fact that something is a kids movie, doesn't mean it has to be stupid. See most Pixar movies, kids movies though they are, they still have a decent plot that an adult can enjoy.
I know making a decent plot must be hard, especially when you have to edit the film, but still, put in some effort.
Fuck off. Maybe you are talking about one of the isolated parks miles out of town. But if you actually want to travel by cycling, it is a joke of a city.
I guess you are one of those people who drive to the sea or a park, and get your bike out of the boot. Fuck you.
Bullshit. Canberra has great parks to ride through, and nice wide streets, but everything is so far away, it becomes a joke. Sure, if you only want to ride around the city, you are ok. But you need to go to one of the 5 satellite suburbs, it becomes a real pain.
Plus, Canberra is the most boring city in the world, it has actually sucked the life out of people flying overhead. Planes will no longer fly over it anymore, seriously, look it up.
Yeah, I am one of them, and hardly anybody does. Compare it to a European city, and it is a joke.
Sydney's roads are not wide enough for cars, let alone cars and a bike. Sydney is one of the shittest cities I have ever lived in for transport, and I have lived in medieval cities with roads thrust upon them, around castles and ancient walls.
NSW is the only state to have a transport minister AND a roads minister, whose entire job is to build MORE roads. For a city that has had a higher increase of cars over the last 10 years than people.
You are ignorant if you can't find lots of reasons why the iPhone is better than lots of phones. It doesn't have to the best phone out there, just better than phones most people currently have.
Have you heard of the app store, genius? There is nothing like it before. It was tricky in the past to get some app on phones, even for me. You have to get the right jar file, use Activesync, put it in the right place, then discover it doesn't support your screen res.
That is just one aspect. Are you really that fucking ignorant?
And most people go to sleep every night, so charging isn't a big deal. My iPhone will last two days without a charge.
Yes, but most people wont. Most people don't even know what that sentence means. That is what we care about, not the technical elite, but the average loser.
Funnily enough, Apple has recently released some great deals, and imac with OS X Server for $999. You won't find anything similar for Windows, with Windows Small Business server starting at $3,000 without the hardware.
Of course, I can very easily see Apple setting this table at $800-$1000, which is just way too expensive.
It depends. Some people can't live without a keyboard on their smartphone, some can. It depends what you do on your laptop. If you aren't programming or writing documents, you may only need to enter a web address, some form data, or an email every now and again.
A lot of stuff can be done without a keyboard, these days. Things have changed grandpa.
Yeah, well I just found a half eaten banana on the train. I think I win this round.

The netbook was niche, until everybody started buying them.
Ha, that is funny. Yes, 7 will be faster than Xp. You do realise you can remove sections from XP as well.
Pretty sure ajax will run just fine. Flash, maybe not, but Ajax isn't anything special (You know it is just javascript, right).
I would suggest you hand in your geek card, but I have a feeling you will not know what I am talking about.
Yeah, but they don't control it. And you can bet they won't integrate it to work with Zune. They want compelte control, they want there own version. This has been a huge bonus for Apple.
It depends how you look at it.
Apple are going to release a tablet, there is no argument about that. It could do very well, ala iPhone, or it could crash and burn.

They also lost a bucketload on Zunes.
Price would be good as well. Also availability, which is not talked about at all on their stupid company page.
Nice one Sherlock.
I know, i mean all you need to do is add an aerial to the ipod touch, that is all 3G is, right?
Fucking moron.
It is even a greater alternative to those who do not want any other phone.
To travel internationally you only need GSM. It is only the US that has the CDMA standard. ATT and T-mobile both have GSM phones.

Up was the first Pixar Movie i did not enjoy (have not and never will see Cars).
That said, it is still 100x better than a lot of crap for kids.

Yes, you are the only one in the fucking entire world who has not seen it.
What is the point of your comment? It is almost as useless as this comment.
Fuck off. Maybe you are talking about one of the isolated parks miles out of town. But if you actually want to travel by cycling, it is a joke of a city.

Sydney is a shithole.

How can you go from the crappy trackpad on the HP to the amazing Apple trackpad on the Pro? It must be painful.
Laugh at the lack of seperate buttons all you want, but the trackpad on the Macbooks makes going back to any other laptop a real pain.
