The reason this story showed up at all is because it is an interesting "Ask Slashdot". The story is a not about "look at the neat online banking running on a linux server". I understand your point, but, please take it somewhere where it is valid to the current discussion. Nobody had, as of yet, attacked the Microsoft bill paying site. I for one never heard of online bill paying sites till last week on the radio.

I have to agree with the moderator who moderated you flamebait. Not because you said 'microsoft good, linux bad', but because your post succeeded in throwing the entire thread offtopic by defending what hadn't yet been attacked.

This is about like going out to gateway and buying a pile of crap PC with the audio and vidio built into the mobo to force you to use them to upgrade. This goes a step further though and uses proprietary connectors. Any bets on whether or not MS has a copyright on the pinout so that only they can make joysticks and gamepads for the console? Expect to see sidewinder profits go through the roof.
Other concerns, under the hood, will it have any PCI slots for upgrading? How about memory expansion?

PowerJ 3.5 (Java dev) : win, sun
    PowerSite (HTML/JavaScript/ASP dev):win, sun

Unfortunately, the main components are currently only available on NT and Solaris. AIX and HPUX are on the way.
You do have the option of using Apache for the web server and, through CGI using powerdynamo and jaguar on another machine, but that almost defeats the purpose. You could go all Solaris though.

I have to say that overall, I do like the package, it makes for rapid website development and, since Jaguar is Corba compliant, I can re-use all my business logic within local client desktop applications when I want the added speed and functionality.

Remember that the heart beating and the lungs breathing are automatic reactions that aren't controlled by the concious parts of the brain. Since it is the concious portion of the brain that would interact with such games, the concious portion of your brain would have to have some way of telling they unconcious portion "hey.. we're dead.. quit that".

Example.. the concious portion of the brain can tell your body to stop breathing (you can hold your breath). However, unless you gag yourself somehow or put a plastic bag over your head, you will not die. Instead, the concious portion of your mind will shut off first, and your unconcious mind will start your breathing process again. Granted, this tends to kill brain cells, but it is not life threatening.

What exactly constitutes persecution? Dose Penn and Teller responding to the question "Do you know any religious scientis?" with "Not any good ones" persicution of christians? Do you really want to say that every clever oral quip consitutes verbal abuse? If you consider off hand remarks to be persicution then what about the following paraphrased remarks: "I don't consider Atheists to be American citizens" (George Bush) or "I don't really like Atheists" (Al Gore). Do you know what the diffrence in these remarks and Penn and Teller's remarks? These second remarks are moving towards the statment of "we should round them up and put them in concentration camps" while Penn and Teller's remark is no worse then making fun of fat people (by people whose job it is to make fun of people and who have no intention of taking it to a more agressive level).

This argument is very open to attack. Funny remarks can be made about any religious group, be it Christian, Jewish, or atheist. Forceful, unhumorous, remarks can be made likewise (see the Playboy interview with the Minnesota governor). The whole paragraph appears to try to say that persecuting remarks against atheists are more forceful than the persecuting remarks generally made by atheists against other people. Such a statement is inherently false. It would be more appropriate to say that, in general, there are more slanderous, non-humorous remarks made against atheists, than there are slanderous, non-humorous remarks made by atheists against other religious groups.

Other than that, thank you for spelling out several of the thoughts I was having as I read this thread. I enjoyed your post.

To someone who doesn't know better, the program looks better on the TV. It does.. but if that same program were originally in 800x600, or 1280x1024, etc, then it would look astoundingly better on the monitor than it does on the TV. The writer obviously didn't realize this.

My question is, why should you have to? Humans are sexual creatures, even children. Does anyone really believe that pretending sexuality doesn't exist until a child is 15 will prevent them from having sex before they graduate from high school? If a child sees porn, it is NOT the parents job to hide it from the child and pretend that they saw something bad and evil. I firmly believe that most parents who want to eradicate pornography simply do not want to have to deal with the fact that their children are sexual creatures and, sooner or later, will need to know about sex. The best thing to do is be open about sexuality with children from a young age. That way, they are comfortable with their sexuality, and will also be more informed about what is a good idea and a bad idea, diseases, pregnancy, etc..

I'm not saying you should sit down with your children and browse though www.analsex.com or www.bondage.com and discuss it with them.. but if your child happens to see a picture of the Venus DeMilo (sp) or a porn site, or whatever, that it is the parents job to discuss any questions the child has with the child.
