I don't mind helping "friends/family" out once in a blue moon, however from time to time I get random people, and a "friend/family" who just takes up too much time.
So I keep an amazon.com wish list, and when people ask how much do I own you (or I politely inform them) I just tell them to go there and get something for me.
For whatever reason people seem to not get offended becuase you don't ask for money.
Bottom line is we have some time before we run out of IP addresses for Public use. So do we need to change tomorrow? No.
But, why not be proactive. I can't tell you how many times at work being proactive has saved our butts. However, I can tell you how screwed we were when we had to "react". So why not start moving over? It can be done slowly, and not rushed.
I am currently taking courses at U. of Phoenix. I find that I enjoy the "online" style course much better than a regular classroom. Mainly, becuase of the lack of tests...quite frankly, I don't need the stress of studing for an exam. Most of the course is written assignments, and discussion. The bad part of the this is that the teacher makes or breaks the class. If the teacher doesn't encourge discussion, then it's very hard to keep it going.
My biggest problem isn't a "logistical" problem, such as the teacher. It is a technical problem. U. of Phoenix system is constantly going down. So it's a pain the night an assignment is due and their system goes down. My wife also does distance Ed. with golden gate university, and she has the same problem AND their system only works with Internet Explorer...and we use Mac. (Note: This is NOT an invitation for a Mac vs. PC vs. MSFT flame war;)
All and all, I think that the online learning enviroment is VERY dependant on the instructor. Now, what do you do when the instructor is bad...I don't really know. In my experence you can usually tell in the first day or so if they are good or bad...and if they are bad...I just drop the course.
Just my $0.02...or $0.02357 if you're at a gas station
I don't normally chime in, but I thought that I would for this one. Let me start by saying that I don't like MS...I'm using a mac as we speak (with Safari)...and I'm a Senior UNIX admin at work....anyway...
Can we really blame MS for this? They released a patch in July...MS can't be held accountable for Windows Admins for not updating their software (I'm not saying it's the admins fault either...I know that admin spend 80 - 90% of their time putting out brushfires, and can't find time to do patches). Now, do I think that MS needs to find a better way to notify customers of new patches...b/c I know that I don't have time to sit around and browse and go through what I've installed and what I haven't (are you listening Sun?!?!)
So for example...If I don't stay up to date on all the Solaris/Linux patches does that mean that Solaris/Linux is a security prone OS? Heck, no!
I have recently switched to a Mac, from a dual boot Windows/Mandrake machine. The reason I switched to a Mac was:
1. Ease of Install. It took me a week to get my Linux install just the way I like it.
2. Problem with Mac - No decent groupware product (i.e. Outlook/Exchange). Microsoft Entourage will get there eventually.
3. I wanted to only have 1 set of software. So I wanted something that my wife could use (Linux out of the question), so that was the reason I went to a mac.
A lot of guys at work say the samething, there is no decent groupware client for Linux/Mac. Evolution is getting better and better, but it's still not quite there.
Response to "Incorrect Tittle - And why?" After reading that I realized that I need to be a little more specific. The Tables are made in Access...then exported to a MS-SQL server (that's VERY easy to do) Thanks for all the help!
All of our servers/workstations are staying up...they are all new machines and we have done extensive research to make sure that they will be fine, plus all necessary patches are installed.

I'm glad it's all going to china. It will make it REALLY easy to block the SPAM.
Set Firewall to block all port 25 connections from Asia based IP addresses.
Maybe I have an over simplistic view on the matter.

I'm not a big Microsoft fan, but I have to argee with you...I have had NT servers stay up for 6+ months without reboot.
