Anyone remember what the infamous Registration Wizard did when upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95?

I wouldnt put it past them to code a phone home feature for clickthroughs for this.

Even if they get caught doing it, I can just hear the argument now, "Heck Yahoo, AltaVista and others collect aggregate data. Just look at what the URL becomes when you mouse over the link from thier lists."

I for one, love that google STILL does not do that.

My windows upgrades have stoped dead. ;P

Yes I keep a windows box around for those odd things that just wont run correctly under wine. And yes I am ashamed that I actually PAYED the Borg for the copy of Windows 2k.

But its stuck at SP2 and I can say that that is the end for software from the Borg for me.

On the other hand my linux box just keeps up updating and updating and updating as fast as I can grab the ISOs ;P

Even though I, like some others here have already mentioned, dont think Novel is a member of the Borg just yet, I agree with you that this still pegs my tinfoilhat-o-meter, and that Novel needs to be watched closely now.

  6. Isnt this a bit over the line? on Gartner Says Linux PCs Just Used To Pirate Windows · · Score: 2, Interesting
IANAL but isnt this a bit over the line?

Basically, they are saying that if you buy a machine preinstalled with linux, there is a 40% chance you are a criminal.

I would think that some enterprising land shark out there might just want to start a class action libel suit about that statement, against gartner and cnet, if such a suit is even possible.

Couldnt the argument go something like, "such an article could indeed make such individuals feel persecuted by the law in the future with out cause, possibly even seeking councle that they wouldnt even need otherwise?"

Again IANAL and Im just speculating.

    1) No DRM

I could not care less about any other details, ogg, mp3, ect, ect.

[1] If I walk into a music store, get a CD off a shelf and pay with cash (tinfoil hat arguments about face recognition systems or ATM bill number records aside) I can expect a certain level of anonymity. Ill buy online when I can expect that level of anonymity. (aka never) No one has my permission to record what music I listen too, what books I read, or what video I watch piriod, and that includes credit card records.

One suggestion I would make though.

On IRCs make the default character coding ISO-8859-1

I was on a server that had a channel name spelled with a "tilde e" which was consistently causing problems for UTF-8

Now if the powers that be, which include Volition that own the Descent series trade mark. Agree to do a Descent 4 (snowball/hell) then I might need a new card. Right now I dont need a new card.
