  1. Re:XM is quite horrendous on Portable Internet Radio to take on XM? · · Score: 3, Informative

First of, sir, you're obviously listening to the wrong stations. Unless you explore more than a couple of the available stations, yes, it may seem like they play music that is a bit more uncommon to hear than on normal broadcast radio-- but then again, broadcast radio rock MUST play the same music over and over (and over) again on the same station.

On XM, there is more than one "rock station" that would play music that broadcast stations must play on the same station, save some of your huge market cities where there may be a bit more selection of stations. XM offers quite a few different "genres" of rock stations-- Ethel plays songs from the alternative genre.. from Blink 182 to Nirvana. Boneyard plays your hard rock, which has a pretty huge fanbase...

Aww hell, just look for yourself. The description on the XM Radio [XMRadio.com] website does a fairly good job in explaining this anyway.

Unfortunately, the win32 GAIM client, at least by default, doesn't integrate well into XP. It looks, well, ugly. The taskbar functionality is lacking (yes, there was a "plugin" to add taskbar functionality to GAIM, but it still leaves much to be desired.)

The fact that I don't use linux means that I don't really care if it's gtk2 based. While there are a couple of programs that may use it, none of these programs really have any appeal to me on a larger scale.

Finally, Trillian is absolutely free. Trillian Pro is the pay for use version, and it adds some features like video chat.

  5. Re:Cruise missile on Cornell Builds Autonomous UAV · · Score: 1

I can only assume that the difference between a cruise missile and this is that cruise missiles are designed to fly to one target while following the terrain of the land at a low altitude (above trees, over hills, etc.) and fast enough to make it unlikely for conventional Ground-to-air defense systems to shoot it down.

The UAV is more oriented towards planned flight-paths and even remote-controlled flight and battle (if talking about military applications).

Are you part of the avionics business? While I don't program flight computers, I seriously doubt that all of the functions that are now controlled by the multiple computers on a modern day jet can be fit on "a few KB of ROM." Perhaps mission critical application such as fuel management and the fly-by-wire mechanisms. We ARE talking about flight here, modern day jets (and perhaps even UAVs) fly on the brink of instability, which requires powerful computers, and therefore, I assume, a bit of powerful software behind it to fly... unfortunately, a "few" KB of ROM is not enough to manage this in modern aircraft.

That was in the official game FAQ, where is this news of the game being delayed coming from?

When I was in High School (umm, awhile ago), Lycos was my favorite search engine, even over Yahoo!. I can't begin to imagine the management mishaps that had to have happened in order to drive that cart into the ground.

I also thought that they had plenty of interesting features, they really just failed to innovate in order to compete against the Yahoo!'s, Googles, and MSNs of today.
