'cause many people who buy an iPod believe that iTunes is a must have. They want the piece of software that was written for the device. If it can't run using the official means, many users will be left confused. As I said earlier, they need it to install from CD to feel that it's usable.

I'm obviously not talking about the majority of /. readers, but about a large fraction of computer users who, for the moment, will not touch Linux because there isn't enough easy to intall software available for it.

The article says : "Peripheral device driver support was also a hot-button issue. In particular, USB device and networking printing were mentioned as key areas that needed improvement."

For mass consumption, this is the biggest problem I have seen. The people I know who are not technically inclined will stay away from Linux for the time being for this very reason. When they buy a sparling new ipod and the installation cd doesn't set everything up for them they end up thinking Linux is either a) crap or b) for nerds with too much spare time on their hands.

This is, of course, in large part due to vendors not giving a toss about Linux. With it's ever increasing popularity (especially in the corporate world) I don't think this situation will last very long.

You will have more luck if you look towards the Sun. Venus is closer to the Sun than the Earth which means when we see it, it will never be far from the Sun.

You may have heard Venus called the morning or evening star as it is very bright and will be the first star seen at night and the last one to be seen in the morning.

This is all assuming that Venus is not wandering on the other side of the Sun, in which case you will see sweet fa.

There are more men that want sex all the time from any available source than their female counterparts - which doesn't mean that the latter don't exist. The fact that men are like this is obvious when you see how often gay men meet up for casual sex. I have a couple of gay friends who have invited strangers to their places for the sole purpose of having sex. I don't know any women who have done this but I'm sure most heterosexual males (single of course) would be thrilled with the idea.

Returning to the main point, porn almost always shows a very male orientated, chauvinistic side of sex. I find that it is degrading to women for this reason and not that it depicts sex hungry women. There are many of those :)

However if you were to stick to the more stable applications on your stable Slackware box you would have fewer (or no) problems. I imagine that the software that will be running on the missile defense computer(s) will be more thoroughly tested than some dodgy game port coded by someone during their spare time.

Saying that, if there were a problem it would give windows fans endless amounts of ammo to gun down Linux (sorry for the pun).

  7. Re:People should learn on Ports for Porn - Using Firewalls to Block Porn · · Score: 0
i don't agree. most porn is far from reality and portrays women in ridiculous ways.

    unrealistic themes in porn:

    1. All women want sex from all men at all times.
    2. Women naturally desire the kind of sex that men want, including sex that many women find degrading. eg double penetration
    3. Any woman who does not at first realize this can be turned with a little force (though force is rarely needed because most women in pornography instinctively understand their "true" sexual nature)

All this is often performed while the men call the women "bitch," "cunt," "whore," and similar names. Some tapes advertise "ATM," or "ass-to-mouth," in which a man removes his penis from the woman's anus and she puts it directly into her mouth.

In short, the main aim of much of this porn (but not all) is to humiliate and degrade women while showing the superiority of men. Good porn is not impossible, and even exists, but it is in the minority.

Sure, why not. Anyone who doesn't have the money for two computers could want a "desktop replacment" laptop. My laptop was sold with just that in mind and I have played quite a few games on it. However I do agree that playing a game on the bus coming home from work is just marketing schmooze.

Also, alcohol has been shown to accelerate cancer growth in animals. The parent article states : "Most beer has low levels of this compound, and its absorption in the body is also limited". This "drink beer and live longer" result doesn't really sound like a cancer breakthrough - the active compound was discovered 10 years ago - but more like a brewery funded marketing experiment.
