    Yeah, that's also why all those hacked servers always run Apache, right?


    Just because Apache is secure doesn't mean that the Mac is also secure.

    It's a truth that more people will try & hack something more widely
    used.

    My maths may be off, but that means your car gets 25 mpg. When that answer appeared on my calculator, I literally laughed out loud. In the UK we'd refer to that as rubbish efficiency (trends for ludicrous urban SUV usage notwithstanding). 15 years ago I had an ancient piece of crap Morris Minor [wikipedia.org] that did 35+ mpg, ffs.


    A UK Gallon & a US Gallon are different.

    A UK Gallon is 1.2 * US Gallon.

    You are getting 35 MPG(UK) is the same as 29 MPG(US).

    Still the Morris minor seems more efficient :-)

    This way you are actually helping them by creating a gold rush which will clear their stock inventory in the next 90 days and they can even write it off as a loss as well.
    A penalty is supposed to hurt the penalised, not the improve its financial and inventory positions.


    Huh! If this is going to be good for them, then why don't they do it themselves?
    Is anybody going to stop them?

    A guy at work installed it on a trials machine, and that machine suffered weird problems. It could release, obtain, and renew a DHCP address, but couldn't ping anything, not even the gateway (which is also the switch that does the DHCP stuff).
    He rolled the system back, and it all works.

    There is a lot of different stuff on that machine though, so it **might** not be just due to that. I wonder if it hooks into the IP stack at some level, and that's what messed it up? Anyone else have any similar issues with it?

    COM was a propreitary standard.

    But still COM succeeded much more than CORBA.

    Dox Box's book "Essential COM" has a foreword by Charlie Kindel (one of Microsoft's
    COM/ATL developers) which discusses this.
