  1. Planet of the Apes re-make? on A Few Notes on Movies of the Near Future · · Score: 1

I have never seen the original but I do remember the original Planet of the Apes which was also based on the cold war, nuclear war. It also had a modern remake which I thought was a more special effects totty up than substance. Why are the new movies so dumbed down?

There is no hunger in the USA, there is only Food Security. The US will not retreat in Iraq, there will be a Tactical Redeployment. Anything between 0% and 100% is going to come with spin :p

  4. Gameplay of MMO's still not up to scratch on Mmogchart.com Updated to 20.0 · · Score: 1

There are thousands of articles around as to why WoW did well, from it's existing franchise, to taking the Warhammer minature artwork through to the game, to simplification and a slick interface. But I had had my does of EQ1 and to be honest find them all very boring these days. I am waiting for a generation shift, something new to come to the genre. Compare the gameplay of an MMO with the gameplay of a moden single player RPG like Oblivion, or the gameplay of Half-life 2. It's a huge gap still. Ever grind in Quake? I mean back in the 90's you could excuse the genre of better gameplay because of the additional technology involved, but these days they should be closer to the single player variants. Until they do, I have had my dose.

  6. Doom influenced by a movie in the first place on Doom Movie Scriptwriter Dave Callaham Interviewed · · Score: 1

C'mon, who has not seen the Evil Dead series movies? They were fantastic. I am sure somewhere I read that the original games were influenced by these movies. In the second film Ash loses his hand, the the third film is the trademark Remington shotgun and chainsaw combination. Got to be one of my fave B series horror flicks! check out http://www.houseofhorrors.com/evildead2.htm and http://www.houseofhorrors.com/aod/pages/armyof.htm It even has the chainsaw on the cover! "Shop smart, shop S-Mart!" heh Go Ash!

  7. I dunno, going by the losses of the IAF on Planning Phase Complete For Indian Moon Mission · · Score: 1

I have been in Bangalore since last October on assignment :p Since I have been here I have lost count of how many jets the Indian Airforce lose. IAF vs the ground seems to be a losing battle. There was some fire in the space centre too a few months ago. Track record is not to hot with the basics, so overtime and over budget :p

It's amazing all the new schemes they come up with, but they forgot to add a very small footnote in the books to state they were using a calander system from another planet. "Hey lets use Neptunes calander, thats gives us 60000 days in a year to play with to meet analysts expectations!" Before Enron, economists were making noises about the revenuse reports from the Fortune 500 companies, bascially they didn't add up with the rest of the data out there. Alot were told to go look at there figures more closely becaus ethey just had to be wrong. And look what came out afterwards, heh.

Bin Laden does wear a vote Bush t-shirt, I'm sure he is even finding ways to pop up his campaign money. There's nothing like keeping an ineffective, incompetent leader of the enemy in power :-)

  10. A better democracy, alternative systems? on Using Copyright To Suppress Political Speech · · Score: 3, Interesting

You need a better democracy. Nothing wrong with trying to improve a system to have a better representation of its citizens, and the old two party split is far from perfect. Not that I know much about America's voting system and structure but there have been many new systems that have evolved over the years, like those proportion systems vs first past the post etc. I'm out of my depth here heh. Anyone have a list of alternative systems and what Americans here would want instead to give better representation? I remember NZ moving from first past the post of MMP with mixed results, then again I have been an ex-pat for so long I'm likely not the best to comment :p
