now that they are using linux maybe the will sell their fucking notebooks with linux on them.
I am sick of these companies using linux the way they see fit and not their customers. I want to be able to buy a vaio notebook with linux on it and not windows.
don't read him anymore - if he calls what O'Gara did journalism then he should go right out the door with her.
Respected journalism should be about facts and getting to the truth not about getting readers. He is all marketing.
What O'Gara did was very wrong and unprofessional. What she did bordered on harrassment not journalism. If she called PJ and PJ told her she did not want an interview and wanted to remain out of the limelight she should of respected that decision.
I think O'Gara and Dvorak should go work for some tabloid that you see at the grocery checkout - that way they go around and spy and try to get pictures of celebrities so they "get readership".
I want Mr. Dvorak to know that I cancelled my subscripiton (which I just renewed) to SysAdmin magazine and gave that article as reason. SysCon should of known better than to publish that and at least I am doing my part to let them know.
Thank goodness for the Editors at LinuxWorld - I truly respect them and I am sure respected magazines will pick them up - i.e linuxmagazine.
Mr. Dvorak can only wish he has half the ethics those folks do - articles like his just hurt the community he speaks of - there are lunatics all around - they don't represent the majority and he is just bringing the lunatics to the forefront which is what they want.
So Mr. Dvorak why don't you actually do some factual articles instead of helping to dish up FUD against the community.
that I use linux - I was so sick of licenses and having to pay the redmond cash cow -
Linux gives me that freedom from being strapped down by them - both in fees and in what I want to do with my computer. I can do what I want with it without having to buy another product or license.
I bought an old imac for my daughter so she could do some of her games but you know we ended up putting linux on it because she liked it better than the Mac OS. Go figure.
I really do appreciate thier integrity on the issue
now as a customer I will be doing the same - I have been on call all week so I have been in another world and haven't seen the article -
but this fuat seems like a worm - I will be sending my letter and cancellation of the sysadmin magazine explaining that if they don't drop the other worm o'gram from their publication whatever I will be canceling my subscription and I want my money back.
if not - it is nice to have some fud out there against microsoft.
I hope all the idiots that wrote their site for ie only are getting nervous now - they should be - you do not write a site for a specific browser - to write to open standard protocols.
"For software buyers, the best strategy is to consider mature and established open source products as well as proprietary software products that adhere to open standards. In this way, buyers can choose the best software product for the job, knowing that the value of their investment will be preserved without locking the organization in to a single vendor solution."
Amen - I have been saying this for years since I have been out of college - I was taught in college to adhere to open standards so all systems can communicate. This is the best part of linux it forces open standards.
I see this broken everyday by so called web developers.
the heck with apple - they use open source and built there bread and butter on a free os freebsd and they yet have created an itunes client and software for their airport card for linux or freebsd.
what gives apple - we thought we were your friends in that we were both going against microsoft -
I sure wish they would start giving back some - but it is just like microsoft - you are just following a different pied piper.
to bill and his predictions - we all know the technology world revolves around bill.
at least with the ipod I don't have to have a subscription - at least I hope not - I don't own one. at least I can take my own cd's and rip them onto the ipod and i don't have to have a subscription.
I don't know about everyone else but I am just about subscriptioned out - between cable, cell phone, isp, etc I just don't want any more - I want less - I am thinking of getting rid of my cable - I hardly ever watch - all the shows are pretty lame in my opinion. now they want you to pay for radio - ridiculous - but I guess that is what they said with cable.
technology is great but all I see these days are innovation on how to make people pay subscriptions and just suck more money out from us.
does this mean the will be releasing a driver for the airport card on macs for linux.
at least I think it is them that manufacture the card.
I think we start throwing our weight around a little bit - where if these companies are going to use open source to make money then how about making some drivers for the everday devices - i.e. why doesn't ibm make a dvd player for linux that can ship with their laptops. I know I would buy one if that was the case.
boy you must of talked to a lot people to know that a million of people hit their site and never had a problem - you must have a lot time on your hands.
Does bill know your running gentoo - I bet he would fire ya over that - you really must have a lot time on you hands - I mean with all the compile time - but you probably just installed the binaries already optimized just so you can say you run Gentoo and everyone would be impressed thinking you actually compiled your os.
If you would read the post - it didn't take anything out - I unplugged the network cable and my mouse started to respond again so I closed the microsoft site I had open in the browser plugged the network cable back in and everything was fine.
who does that reflect badly on - no other site I have visited has ever done that - I would say the coders of the microsoft site. It is a piece shit site and thanks for passing the word onto bill.
oh ya one more thing - I am switch over my cousins machine tonight to ubuntu - she has windows 2000 and I just talked to her - so billy can count one more license gone.
sorry - I don't run windows and I don't pirate software. if you go to their site it has a link right in front for download drivers. I never said what version of windows I was looking for or anything.
are you both windows employees -
all I did was state what happened on their wonderful web site - so they be doing something funky in detecting clients who visit. their web site froze my firefox browser and my mouse went dead - when I unplugged the cable everything came back.
so blow me both of you and tell bill you doing a good job.
just went to their web site to get some drivers for my cousin and it locked my machine - Of course I am using unbuntu and firefox -
funny thing is when I unplugged my network cable I got my mouse back and disconnected from their site - seems everything works fine now but I sure hope they weren't trying to put sypware or root kit on my computer.
they will hear from if I find anything.
piss off microsoft - what are you now keeping people that don't run your os from your web site.
of companies and the government trying to control what they think we should or shouldn't have/or do.
somewhere, somehow our society got this attitude that because we think the public shouldn't have or need this we can disable it. never mind open standard open protocols - we know what is best for you.
or is it their software is so crappy they have to start to disable open standards open protocols to make it at least somewhat usable and secure.
"The whole idea of the H-1B visa thing is, don't let too many smart people come into the country. The whole thing doesn't make sense," Gates said.
Yes and we are so stupid here in the United States. All we do is watch movies and buy videos legally or illegally.
There are coders out there that I know and are friends with and have pretty decent consulting jobs and they work with unix/linux. They don't want to work with crap software from Redmond.
Bill is so degrading and he thinks he is such a genious and great person.
Why would anyone want to work for an unethical ran company like his. I would rather code for open source - at least my work has a better chance of living and improving and not just ditched because some genious thinks it isn't where he wants to take his company.
Maybe this would be one way Linux will win - by taking all of Microsoft's talent away. I never even thought of this happening but I guess it is a possibility.
I think you are going to see a whole new kind of revenue stream coming from open source.
try to religiously convert anybody - the conversation usually starts with me telling them what I do for a living and then they complain about windows and spyware etc.
then I explain what I use and what their options are then I offer to get them a knoppix, ubuntu, cd and have them take it for a spin and I would be glad to help out any way I can.
This has worked numerous times and they have stayed with Linux. They now say they don't have to buy all the extra crap they need and they just get their work done.
Other than that I just let it go - I am not going to try to religously convert anybody - that won't help open source or them - they have to want to do it.
"An argument in favor of that is that we should do so in the event we, or one of our developers, are sued for doing something we consider legitimate, like offering freely modifiable software gratis to the world," Robinson said."
sadly those days may be closer than we all think - especially if all the "intellectual property/patent lawyers" have their way in the US.
please UK do not adopt software patents. there is no need for them and they are totally ridiculous.
"This is after a man who was not able to copy a DVD he purchase to a VHS cassette so he can watch it at his mother's place. Which is considered private copying and is a consumer right in France."
Gee I thought that was a right in the US too. What happened to our government where it stands for the people/consumer and not the corporations/ceo's.
Too bad advancement in technology is an excuse to get rid of those dam constitutional stupid ideas.
When will the U.S. government realize how unconstitutional our current government is - I guess it will take another revolution.

this is so stupid - this case will be here for longer than I live if SCO goes through all that information.
this is nothing but a fishing trip that SCO has not even showed one bit of evidence that they deserve to be on.

better ye the judge is their to protect the innocent
they are the innocent's only friend when they get accused.
you know the old innocent untill proven guilty theory.

I suggest keep your documents pdf.
