I imagine 14.5 million to Google is like 14.5 cents to me. Here's a nickel and dime. Please, keep the change.

Agreed. TiVo had that magic branding. I couldn't even mention my Replay most of the time without saying "it's like a TiVo". Also worth noting is the fact that it records in MPEG2 and had a NIC for easy transfer to my PC. For the record mine is still running strong, I had a very rare lockup on it a few weeks ago and started to panic wondering what I would do without it.

  3. Re:I Choose Not to Participate on Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day · · Score: 1

    Must.. resist... grabbing flamethrower.

I always thought sysadminday included DB Admins, Networking Techs, etc.

I think a day of appreciation is nice. I've seen some admins get a ton of abuse and some worshiped like gods. Guess it depends on where you work.

I kinda wonder what the world would look like if all the admins suddenly decided they wanted their damn day and took all the systems offline on the 27th of July to make a statement. Sounds like a great si-fi B movie.

  4. Re:I hate dealing with Sys Admin on Are Sysadmins Really that Bad? · · Score: 1
I don't know if this is the trend or not but it seems to be my experience. You get used to the people around you everyday singing your praises, then one day I get a new boss. I got the message that I was a cog, easily replaced. I left. I need to check in and see how that worked out for them one day. I really think he was right in a way, we are all replaceable, I just think managers are much more replaceable than sysadmins.

Sysadmins are a commodity now, they aren't viewed as adding value.

Wow, what a great idea. Why not? The GoogleOS. They could just throw together their own Linux distro and give it away.

I know there will come a day when I will miss the CompUSA in Chicago that I see is closing. It was the only quick place to grab those emergency parts you needed every now and then. Now, if only Fry's would move into CompUSA's space.

I have always thought that if the automobile was just introduced today it would be banned in an instant. Too dangerous, and a legal landmine. We have not only become to timid but are also supporting a legislative bureaucracy thats needs to be keeping itself busy it seems.

OMG did I love mine. Played with it longer than just about any other toy, with the exception of Lego possibly. I bought one for my son when I felt he was old enough but he never really got into it. Kids today, harumph!

Not that I'm a fan of or will vote for Nader but, I think what he and other 3rd party's are doing is trying to make enough noise that the majors will adopt some of their positions.
