    No, it makes sense. Be responsible with your money or you don't get a credit card.

    Can't get a card now? Stop trying to apply every week, wait a couple of months and then get a secured credit (put $150 down, get $300 credit card). Use that responsibility for 1-2 years and then go for a real credit card. In 5-7 years you'll have decent - good credit.

  18. Re:LCD is better for coding on Slack LCD TV Market Means Cheaper Phones And Monitors · · Score: 1

    Your math is a little off there my friend.

    1600 * .25mm = 40cm

    40cm / 4 * 3 = 30cm (monitor ~ 4:3)

    So, sqrt(40^2 + 30^2) = 50^2 (we should all be able to compute that without our calculators, hopefully)

    50CM = ~19.7in - so ideally you'd want a 21 inch CRT monitor or a 20in LCD, but a 19in CRT does just fine here.

    I don't lose real estate, I lose picture quality.

    I have dual monitors. A 19 CRT (at 1600x1200) and a 17 CRT (at 1156x864). If/when I do decide to go with LCDs I'm actually leaning towards 3 decent/good 17in LCDs.

  21. Re:Smoking and not sharing... on Slack LCD TV Market Means Cheaper Phones And Monitors · · Score: 4, Insightful

    The problem is that I need the real estate provided by a 19in CRT running at 1600x1200. A 17in LCD at 1280x1024 just doesn't cut it.

    A decent 20in LCD that gives you 1600x1200 is, what, $700-$800 at least.

    So, a good/very good 19in CRT for $250-$300 or a decent 20in LCD for $700-$800 (yes, I understand the screen will actually be bigger, but they are both running at the same resolution and that's what really matters).

    Until the prices come down, I won't be making the switch.

    FAA systems are taken offline all the time - the trick is to make the downtime as short as possible.

    A win2k reboot would take what, 2 minutes max? It would only need to be weekly too. So, probably pick Tuesday at about 2:30am local time (which I believe is one of the least busy times for flying) and you're all set.
