    The conclusions they drew were fine, they said. It was a difference of a degree of uncertainty. And yes, mistakes happen. That doesn't necessarily invalidate the entire study, no. You might want to learn how science works.

  4. The IPCC consists of tens of thousands of studies that all tend to correlate very strongly with each other. There's plenty of science out there. This isn't the only climate change study in the world, any more than you're the only person in the world.

    The science isn't bad. A mathematical calculation is bad. The science on climate change is solid and getting better every day.

    OMG! Scientists are all lairs, trying to make billions of dollars for themselves. They were just caught lying again. Climate change is Fake News!

    I think that captures a good portion of the posts we'll see here. The truth is that the IPCC studies are summaries of tens of thousands of studies, and they all point to the same problem and the same cause and the same predictions. Humankind is still largely fucked, whether this one researcher miscalculated uncertainty in this one study or not.

    Climate is a measure of the sum total of weather in an area over a 30 year average.

    Yup. That's the inherent flaw behind our current corporate/capitalist structure. The corporations have all of the right of individuals, and none of the liabilities. Corporations can't go bankrupt, and corporations can't go to jail. Individuals go bankrupt and go to jail every day, That's why the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer in the US (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/wealth-inequality-in-the-us-is-almost-as-bad-as-it-was-right-before-the-great-depression-2018-07-19). The US is really only a comfortable place if you're wealthy. It's increasingly a uncomfortable place to live as a poor or even a middle-class person. That's a large reason why the Great Orange Asshole happened.

    Oh, you're right. If it hits at the wrong time, you can be fucked. At the same time, a year and a half to get back what you lost isn't all that bad. But, there have to be special (shitty) circumstances where somebody would have to dump their entire portfolio immediately after a crash. Most people should be able to just wait a bit longer.

    Neither Amazon nor EBay are "safe". I wouldn't buy anything from either company. We buy all of out computers refurbished, and we don't use either of these companies.
