Vote with your wallet. Believe it or not, there ARE other places to buy things. And with the NET these days, even if you're too lazy to get off your ass, you can still just go to a different web site. Of course, I advocate going to your local merchant, but that's another discussion entirely. And no, I haven't bought anything from Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or Amazon in years... and I'm still alive!!!

Well, he's right. Being a plumber or electrician (if you can find those jobs) do pay a hell of a lot more than unemployment does. And, since he decided not to extend unemployment benefits, for many people, a skilled trade does pay more than $0 income. Way to go, Bush! That's some smart thinking!

Of course, you still have to beg, borrow, or steal the money to pay for community college, and if you're lucky enough to have a minimum wage job, you still have to take time off from work to go to class. He might as well suggested that the entire US signs up to take correspondence courses in taxidermy that are shown on TV.

Most people work because they HAVE to. This whole "personal fulfillment from work" bullshit exists only in wealthy countries like the US. MOST of the world's population is still in places like Africa and Southeast Asia, where you're lucky to have ANY job that pays $0.25/day. So, take your high and mighty (and juvenile) "Dark Side" bullshit and shove it sideways up your ass. You're lucky to be able to choose what job you want. Yup. Bookkeeping, and since we're a retailer, also off-the-shelf point of sale (I say off-the-shelf because I invariably have somebody chime in with "Home Depot uses it"). It wouldn't just be an OS switch, we'd have to change the entire core of our business. Even then, there's no Linux expertise on staff, so it would cost thousands just to get stuff set up and configured. Maybe, maybe if we had 100 people, and maybe one or two Linux guys, maybe I'd consider it, but then the bookkeeping and POS apps would have to be up to snuff, and from my research, there's nothing that's even close in these departments. Since we live and die by our software, it has to be relatively bulletproof, full-featured, with support, and not a beta or hobby piece of software. Hell, we've been looking at switching our POS system, and I'm evaluating MS's POS solution, so we're actually going in the opposite direction from open source...
