  1. Its Software Programmer! on The Hidden Engineering Gender Gap · · Score: 1, Insightful

I am so sick of hearing about software 'engineers'. An engineer is a graduate of an engineering school. Their degree will sound something like mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, or chemical engineer. A graduate of the computer science department is not an engineer, they are a programmer. Now we have the whole software part being completely stripped away from the faux title to simply 'engineer'. Can you possibly call anyone an engineer who has no training at all in anything close to an engine?

Actually, can we forget this? Intel puts Pentium M's into the Centrino, NOT Celeron M. I don't know where you heard that, but you're a lowsy nerd.

  3. Re:No thanks. on Sony Announced Hybrid Digital Camera · · Score: 1
Do people differentiate between different divisons of Microsoft? No. When they do something stupid with Office, people say "Microsoft is at it again". When they do something stupid with Windows, they say the same thing. They do not say "Microsoft's Office-division is at it again!" or "Microsoft Windows-division is at it again!". When MS pushes .doc-format in Office, people blame Microsoft, not just their office-division. When Microsoft screwes up security in Windows, people blame Microsoft, not just their Windows-division. But still, we should treat Sony differently? I don't buy it.

But if Microsoft comes out with a crappy keyboard or mouse, should you stop buying Microsoft software? The point is that they are two different products. If you don't like Microsoft mice, then that doesn't mean you have to stop buying Office. Its the same for Sony.

If you don't like DRM music, don't buy it. It just seems silly to also stop buying completely different products. You can boycott products you don't like, and perhaps that sales drop will hurt that part of the company enough for them to do something about it. Sony is too broad a company for the camera people to care what happens in the music division.

Because the bear is on a network, a parent could also use it to interact with a child remotely -- communicating or even taking snapshots through an embedded camera.

Here's an idea: interact with your child in person. It works better.

I am so tired of crap like this being developed which will have absolutely no good impact on anyone. Don't you think a child can tell the difference between a stupid bear toy and his/her parents? Who is it that comes up with this crap?

  7. What kind of jet? on GlobalFlyer 'Round The World Solo Flight Takes Off · · Score: 2, Interesting

All of this talk has looked over one important aspect: the jet engine he is using on his aircraft. If I remember correctly, jet engines are fuel hogs, so:

    A) What kind of jet is he using?

    B) How is he storing all that fuel?

Requiring all that junk is completely unnecessary.

This is just one more reason that we need a national ID card (with encryption and all the safeguards). The social-security number was never meant to be an ID number like it has become, and we need something else that really is like an ID number. The technology is there, why don't we use it?

  10. Re:Ther Can Be Only One on Lucas to Make Sequels to Star Wars After All? · · Score: 1

The scrolling text always said "Episode IV: A New Hope", even before "Episode V:" was in the works. Episode IV: A New Hope was added only after TESB came out and Star Wars was rereleased. The original release made no reference to any episode or that it was part of any series of films. Its easy enough to tell that there were going to be other films, if nothing other than the reference to Luke's father being evil, and nothing revealed about it until TESB.
