Yuck. One thing I am truly enjoying now that I am on a smaller lan is that I haven't had to deal with bad batches. Kind of nice ordering 5 and 10 at a time.
Are you buying the latest and greatest model? When I was on a larger lan I would purchase one back when possible. Tried to stick with the 260s as long as possible, then I tried sticking with the 280s as long as I could...
Ya, regrettably, I didn't get into the community content part of it, I played through most of the single player content and burned out. I was frustrated at the new style system that lacked the control over the character. I am not a D&D guy but I really missed having a 5-6 person party and customizing my character like in BG. Wasnt the reason they moved systems because they didnt want to pay royalties to Wizards of the Coast?
Ya I was just thinking as a supplement. there is a large surface area on planes and even if you could reduce the cost of a flight by 1% you would think that would amount to a huge cost savings overall.
looks like someone had mod points and went down the thread marking troll. This is what we refer to as someone abusing their mod points. One of the more blatant ones I have seen.
As an aside, it would be interesting in a job review for the interviewer to whip out Axis and Allies. "This is the interview, you will be judged by your choices during war":)
Ya, I am not the brightest either and I routinely score between 140 and 160 playing around with the online tests.
It would be interesting to see a more comprehensive exam that balances intelligence and emotion. Probably would be something better handled by an individual well versed in game theory. For instance, in strategy games I routinely beat my wife, however, trivia she pretty much owns me. I think it is an accurate description of the difference between us, her a straight A student and professor, me a C student but highly regarded in the IT world.
as you said for all you know I could work for the IRS as a top level Strategist now. This all happened a long time ago in the tech world.
The tech world has a history of blowing things out of proportion, EVERY major company has been sued and lost. my only point is, as manufacturers go, dell behaved in a way I found acceptable. This is all that matters, whether or not the vendor behaves in a manner consistent with your business practices. I have different needs than a mom and pop, and NASA has different needs than mine. At our workplace currently we are interested in cosistency and response time. Dell delivers that in a way that suits our needs. Back when this fiasco happened, I worked for the gov't and luckily only had ordered 20 of the PCs in question. We usually ordered in the hundreds and were understandably pissed that dell knowingly sold us the items, but they did a better than normal job of making sure the problem did not effect us too much. Now having worked at several large companies I understand their position a little better. The article does not explain much about the decision that dell made and why. Sometimes you know there are defective parts and you realize that it is better to take the bad press than to recall billions in assets. Dell must have underestimated the damage. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as they have behaved very well and within acceptable means. Using this as an example to bastardize the whole company is a bit shortsighted.
I think you have just gotten a bad batch. I have deployed 10 E6400s which really is a piddly amount, and they have behaved admirably. I think they feel pretty solid, I really think the inspirons feel flimsy though, haven't purchased one of those for home in years.
As for other OEMs I have purchased lenovos and HP laptops, so far if I were to move to a different OEM than dell it would be HP or Toshiba probably. IBM just has WAY too many security protocols in their laptops that is completely unnecessary, you often get the wrong drivers listed on their site, and thanks to the security chips, things just don't behave the same when you wipe and re-install.
HP servers are a little clunky under the hood, Dell has a great design and are largely key less.
I have had problems with hardware on all the manufacturers, and when it comes down to it, dell is the best I have worked with when it comes to responding to problems.
Which makes me wonder, can enough energy be gathered to help offset the cost of jet fuel in existing commercial planes? You are above the clouds so you have a steady supply of power, but I dont know anything about the amount of energy a jet plane needs. Perhaps solar cells just aren't efficient enough yet? If that is the case, how efficient would they need to be?
Oh Ive seen it happen, and am not surprised....As my wife is recently discovering, the general population is really really dumb. She has always been in academics, then decided to do pharmacy and while working as a retail pharmacy tech she has no end of stories that constantly leave me wondering about the future of humanity.
That being said, online IQ tests are ridiculously easy but I think that is so people will pay to see their results or whatnot. No one wants to pay to see the results they know they did poorly on.However, I would love to take a real IQ test some day just to know.
Welcome to the group, us Christians have been generalized due to vocal assholes for centuries....Potlucks on Fridays and cookies are in the corner next to the punch.
Yes actually. I dont know where you live, but an unfortunate problem in the US is that Carbs and Starch is cheap. So you have the poor families eating lots of pasta, potatoes, and prefabed boxed meals because they are what they can afford. The 1M a year families (even the 350K ones I know) eat out a lot more, and spend a considerable amount more on food. My wife and I eat pretty healthy, lots of produce, rarely eat out and our grocery bill is about $300-$350 a month. That averages out to be about $1.81-$2.00 per person per meal a month. That is just for 2 people.
That aside, food shouldn't be taxed anyway, but that is just me. But the richer families do spend more on property, an interesting figure is the number of doctors who declare bankruptcy, just because someone is rich doesn't mean they are fiscally responsible.
1. Never claimed I wasn't an idiot. But thanks for telling me. You truely have effected me on a deep personal level, I am not sure I will ever be the same...thank you
It's actually a simple system
really? if it is so simple why is one of our biggest agencies the one that interprets tax code? Not only do you have to watch the lines where the taxes are but you have to claim certain goods but not others, not to mention there is no pattern to it. You have to look up everything, spend hundreds, or in the case of corportation millions of dollars and man hours to make sure you did it right. Real simple. In fact it is so simple that if you pay enough money you can avoid paying anything at all. It is so simple, no one ever goes bankrupt trying to do it right.
1. Dont know, it isnt my system nor am I a financial expert but I imagine since it is a sold item it will need to be taxed in some way, I dont propose everything has the same flat tax either.
Fair share of the taxes? what BS world do you live in? Look at it, who can afford fancy tax attorneys, and who cannot? Who do you think is paying more for taxes. Because of this convoluted system we give breaks to the rich. A fair tax works because there aren't loopholes, you pay tax on what you buy and use. 23% on what I buy is better than 30-50% of my entire take home. You are taxed based on what you spend, period...scam my ass.
Im not saying it is easy. But a better way is a consumption tax. Military is supposed to be protecting our land, that is why we pay property taxes. We need to take care of our elderly, thus social security, straight forward right? However look at what your property taxes go to, look at your income tax, then your sales tax. There is a better way.
Then stop supporting the offshore companies. Don't tax them.
You have many choices of places to get support from. All that taxing these companies will do is push the cost on to you the customer.
As a side note, I have found that I get better support many times from the offshore folks than I do from the bubblegum chewing American doing the minimal amount of work to pass me off to the next level of support. Of course I am a Nebraskan so I am accent neutral, talking to overseas is just fine with me.
I subscribe to the theory that you should not tax just to generate income or punish. You should tax based on liability, if it costs the gov't cash to maintain a service you pay for it. fairtax.org Im so tired of paying extraneous taxes for random stuff. We seem to have this thought that we have a budget shortfall so lets tax something. Or we don't like people behaving like X so lets tax them. Did we forget what taxes are for?
Of course this ever happening in the US this is a pipe dream, but I like to visit these dreams every once in a while and yes it makes me feel better.
That is just asinine. for 1, it was 2 months in which I replaced all 20 Mobos I replaced the first 10 in a week or 2. It takes a while to know you have a manufacture problem. Even as I remember it was only the 3rd mobo before a tech said unofficially there had been a lot of calls. Soon after the announcement was made.
You evidentialy have not worked in a public facing position, it is practically impossible NOT to make customers angry. A good company is seen in how they react to bad situations. In my opinion as one of the aforementioned angry customers, I think dell responded in an acceptable fashion.
Yes I agree, but I have been working with dell for over 10 years, (along with HP, IBM, and Apple). I am pretty sure the OP is full of it, I have never had any of my friends who are ex-dell employees metion this. There is a disclaimer saying not to read what is on the screen to the end user but no magical "this is the fix". When the fix comes up you are to talk the end user through it, not just read the friggin manual to them. Many times this is a problem of entry level support, call your telco for support and that is what you get, this is Dell trying to increase user friendliness.
For those of us who actually pay for business class support, it is phenomenal, most of the time I get my problem resolved in one phone call in under an hour. Even better, dell allows you to certify very easily and order YOUR OWN PARTS, no tech support needed. Not to mention if you go for gold support, I get a guarantee of a max of 4 hours to resolution. That is astounding. Many times I have part in hand less than 2 hours after initial contact over the phone...This isn't support for one large corporate entity, this is the way I have been treated at every company I have worked for. HP is the same way.
We have all heard horror stories about bad batches and you get people pooling their bad experiences and it looks REALLY bad to the point where you vow to never buy WD or seagate or Hitachi again. But when it comes down to it, dell is on the ball, they run a great company that provides awesome service to businesses. I cannot vouch for their home support though...I never use it because no one ever pays for a warranty past the default one.
What level of support are you running? El cheapo you get tards like that but the Gold support levels, it is a matter of, "where would you like me to ship the new laptop?"
You will get bad batches with any brand, trust me, as a guy who orders in bulk, it is amazing how many times in the past I have had a set of WD drives or Seagate drives fail, or IBM laptops, or pick your product. It happens. It just happens less with dells.
Are you buying the latest and greatest model? When I was on a larger lan I would purchase one back when possible. Tried to stick with the 260s as long as possible, then I tried sticking with the 280s as long as I could...

I go back a little farther, I am waiting for a true successor to BGII and Icewindale. NWN just didnt cut it for me.
Ya I was just thinking as a supplement. there is a large surface area on planes and even if you could reduce the cost of a flight by 1% you would think that would amount to a huge cost savings overall.

2. Anything you buy from America.
It is only regressive if everyone spends the same amount. Are you saying that a family making a million a year spends as much as one making 25K?
Fair share of the taxes? what BS world do you live in? Look at it, who can afford fancy tax attorneys, and who cannot? Who do you think is paying more for taxes. Because 1 bad batch isnt worth shifting vendors. Consistently getting bad batches...now that warrants a switch.
I will take 2 please...
