  1. Cost of civilization on VOIP Progress To Be Hobbled By Wiretap Costs? · · Score: 1, Interesting

I am not trying to troll or throw out some flamebait, but everyone has a tendency to want to complain about having your phone tapped or your email read. However, these means are the primary ways of detecting terrorist chatter. If an attack were to happen on US soil for which the planning occurred over VOIP lines, or email, or normal phone lines, and the CIA couldn't prevent it because they couldn't tap lines, then we would all be up in arms. I for one, say let's trust the people that we have put in positions of power (for the most part), and let them decide when to use this power. And as with the airport taxes, a couple bucks to make me safer is money I will gladly spend.

Yeah, I agree that there *will* be a time for it, but that time is most certainly not now. When they can get it in a 320x240 screen at 10-15 fps, then maybe I'll buy in. Until then, I'll be goddamned if you're getting my 10 bucks for a shit product.

  3. Framerate on Television On Your Cell Phone · · Score: 2, Interesting

    From PC Magazine review:

Video quality isn't as good as on your television set. In general, 15 frames per second (fps) is the minimum required for humans to perceive continuous motion, and 30 is the goal. Idetic currently aims for 1 fps

How the heck can anyone put up with 1 fps? I get annoyed watching streaming video on the net that isn't fluid. I understand its cool and all, but isnt this a stretch?

Looks a little familiar? Cause the text is right here on this PCWorld review:http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,1 17178,00.asp

I am damn proud to be living in Ohio right now. Thank god somebody stepped up to the plate and did something about this. Best Buy's customer service has been on the skids for years ever since they have become too large for their own good. I now go out of my way to go buy electronics and anything of substantial dollar amounts at Circuit City. I am guessing that other people are doing the same thing.

It is kind of funny that Best Buy's shit service is the one thing preventing it from having a total monopoly. Does anyone else feel that CC has a huge edge in terms of service? I'd imagine in some cases it is the lesser of evils, but still, Best Buy needs to re-evaluate themselves. Too bad to see we are seemingly in an era where customer service has gone by the wayside...

Thank you for your insightful and eloquent reply. It is good to see such open-minded thought on /. Please understand that when I post something like this, it is not always at surface value, but rather to incite the types of debates that make slashdot such a unique forum for thought. Yes, I think Bush is a moron. No, I dont think he is an evil or awful person, just a bit simple to run our country. No, I do not particularly like Kerry, but as in 2000, 2004 will be an election where America will choose a lesser of 2 evils. You state many opinions on how we make such a big deal over "differences of opinion." Unfortunately, this is "the way it is" with a 2-party political system. It has been this way since the dawn of this country, and will likely continue as such until the end of it. Again, thanks for your thoughts on this matter - they are enlightening and appreciated.
