  2. I'm stuck also on BitTorrent Inherently Illegal? · · Score: 2, Funny

My college does the same damn thing. I can't even do wnload from bittorrent. But my school is also using a stateful firewall, and a lot of those P2P programs break behind a firewall.

On another note, anyone know a way around that?

  3. Back in School on Making the Transition to University? · · Score: 1

I was dealing with the same exact situation when I graduated highschool. I decided to take the year off, unfortunately the whole romantic notion of doing whatever you want and working, sucks! I ended up in retail for two years and taking random classes in community college. After a while I realized how much the world sucks and now i'm back in college full time pursuing my bachelors in Physics. I took my hatred and fear of working and getting stuck in a deadend job and managed to transfer that into working hard at school, and currently doing better than I ever did in Highschool or Community college combined.
I learned some valuable lessons from those 2 years off, as you may be reading from what other people have said in this thread. Life sucks outside of School. If you do decide to take the year off, don't fall into the pitfall of "Saving for College". You'll be at that stage forever. And don't be afraid to take out more loans than you can shake a stick at, college isn't cheap!

I just wanted to mention also, that I got an almost 70% discount on the cables, and that definately helped the purchase along!

  6. Regarding Cable Types on Are 'Monster' Cables Worth It? · · Score: 5, Interesting

I can't say that I did an empirical review to accurately measure differences, but recently I purchased an HDTV and was wondering the very same thing. I tried several different "just normal cables" one being the cable the cable company gave me, one being regular coax, one being a cheap svideo, and one being a top of the line from radio shack, and a component video set from Monster. The coax was the worst of them all, the sideo cable being second worst. Then came the cable company component, which still wasn't that great. Some of the colors seemed a little washed out, and I could see some signal noise, but that was probably due to my setup. Then I finally tried out the Monster cables. I saw an immediate difference over all the previously tried, the signal came in nice and clear, and there was no color bleeding, and no signal noise visible on my screen. But of course results may vary.

I would personally go to a store, and keep the receipt and just try it out, and see if you notice a difference.

  9. Interesting what's been changed.. on Microsoft Releases AntiSpyware Program · · Score: 1

I use the original program that this is blatantly ripped from at work on a regular basis, and it works amazing. ( www.giantcompany.com ) But what I find interesting is whats been removed in this beta. It seems MS took out the feature in the original that allows you to patch possible security holes in IE, such as certain activex controls. Another feature removed from the original is the ability to list all processes on the PC, and kill those PID's. It seems to me that MS is trying to jump into the anti-spyware foray, but not make it obvious by putting in their own product the ability to close holes. I'll definately be using the MS version . I'll stick to the last known ver from giant, more useful. Makes me wonder what else was taken out...

  10. Making a killing on Spyware Removal is Big Business · · Score: 2, Interesting

Places like Bestbuy are making a killing on this whole Spyware Removal Industry. They currently charge $40 for Spyware Removal, which will usually include an Additional $40 for Virus removal. I work at Bestbuy doing this, and I've seen some pretty nasty infections, i've seen computers infected with literally 1000 instances and the only way to fix it is to boot in safe mode, or just take the hard drive out and scan it in another PC. Fun. And from what I've seen Spybot and Adaware unfortunately dont even get everything. Usually I'll use both, and then use another program and still find spyware and malware!
