  3. Re:ADHD on Chinese Gamers Circumvent Anti-Obsession Measures · · Score: 1

ADHD is often over-diagnosed but because of that it is also under-diagnosed. I used to play MUDS 10 years ago and really got sucked in. I would skip classes just to play. It had nothing to do with having friends. I didn't have any. It had everything to do with 'beating' the game. I would be tired but I couldn't sleep. I had to keep playing. How did I stop playing? I lost my scholarship, ran out of money, quit college for a while, moved back home and didn't have internet access. I then became a church missionary for two years with no computer games and then was finally able to go back and do well in college.

  4. ADHD on Chinese Gamers Circumvent Anti-Obsession Measures · · Score: 5, Interesting

It is interesting to see how kids and adults with ADHD who normally can't focus on anything can hyper-focus on a game. It becomes an addiction much like alcohol or drugs. It is very difficult to overcome by yourself. I have been there. I am grateful to have a wife who gets after me if I play too much now but not everybody has someone looking out for them or even parents that care. What can we do to help them? I don't think it is the role of government but the our role has human beings to help our neighbors.

Joseph Smith said The Constitution should contain a provision that every officer of the Government who should neglect or refuse to extend the protection guaranteed in the Constitution should be subject to capital punishment; and then the president of the United States would not say, "Your cause is just, but I can do nothing for you." (HC 6:56-57; also in TPJS 326-27) Please keep in mind that countless mormons had all of their property stolen, many were raped, murdered, etc using gov troops in Missouri. The federal government refused to do anything to help because it was an election year.

Are they ever going to repeal income tax which was only supposed to be 2% max? Many of us pay over 50% in taxes if you include gas tax, sales tax, income tax, property tax, etc etc.

Or maybe the government wants to know all the vulnerabilities so they can use them against people. If they are made public that is one less tool they have.

Perhaps he can't compete against the GPL. Maybe he is trying to run a business and trying to sell something that has already been done that is open source. This doesn't seem to justify huge court expenses though. Where is he getting he money from? Maybe he is working for somebody like Microsoft or SCO. It is interesting that Microsoft sells software and hence is against GPL and IBM sells services and is for GPL. It is all in the business model. Will Microsoft change to a services company?

  11. Government Take Over of Research on Mother of Internet Speaks Out · · Score: 5, Interesting

I find it interesting that all real R&D is now done by the government. Professors get funding almost exclusively through DARPA, NSF, military branches, etc. It used to be research was done primarily by private industry. Where did we get the transistor from? But now industry R&D is really just product development because they don't fund things that will not be profitable in a few years. So perhaps that is why we are seeing things disappear. The new general/funder isn't interested and there is no quick turn around for the company.
