The problem with doing DRM server-side is you then have 1 million songs with a burned in DRM. If something changes in the world of DRM and Apple wants to support the new standard, then they have to go through all their tracks again. By putting the DRM on the client side, all they have to do is change the client as needed (which is much much easier)
I think it is more of a method of keeping tabs on people 'if necessary'. Personally, I really don't care. Although if I ever somehow accuired some incriminating video evidence against a powerful politician, the series of events that followed would make a great movie.

Correct. It makes perfect sense.
With wireless there is no reconfiguring the seats with LAN jacks and much less hardware to install. And by the time this comes to the light, EVERYTHING will have WiFi in it. Laptops, Cellphones, Shoes, Newpapers....etcetera, etcetera.

They would most likely disable client-to-client access. I could be a breeding ground for attacks that the airline just cannot be responsible for. (at least I wouldn't want to be...)

Apple does something similar. Their employees all have issued PowerBooks and are theirs to use. Everyone has Admin rights and can install what they want. Not that they have as much to worry about in regards to spyware and viruses.
