easier solution to your fruitfly predicament: leave plastic bag on counter with yummy fruit inside. Wait a day or two, you will find all your little fly friends are now happily perched in the bag. Tie up bag and throw away.

Taking a position which requires being on call 24/7 every week, every month, all year is like asking for a permanent psychotic condition. I mean, just because the job offer is there it doesn't mean you have to take it! I would personally NEVER accept a position that had me on call on a permanent basis. This is what's wrong with our society - corporations make up the rules and we just go along with them saying "well that's the way it is".

Well walmart moved into town, I guess that's where we should start shopping...

  4. weak review on eWeek Reviews Gnome 2.8 And KDE 3.3 · · Score: 1

this is a pretty weak "review". How about a side by side comparison of all of the pros and cons of the UI itself - performance, appearance, usability, polish, features. And then the same for each and every bundled app that comes with each, followed by some thoughts on how non KDE apps work under KDE, and same for gnome ... How about a review that gives some insight into the design philophies of each and where each is going ... Not to sound like a cynic, but this is more like a weak version of a story from Wired (which I do generally like as a side note) which implies that there are some sort of differences. or something. It's like they opened up the mail clients, sent out a couple of emails and looked for spam.

You're assuming that modern PCB boards and chips actually are built to *last* more than a couple of years. They're not, that's not how the market works, so no one is building hardware with that as a marketing requirement.

(And it's no wonder modern electronics is so prone to failure when you look at the scale and then consider risks of ESD or just dropping the thing ..)

I am planning on this new DELL P4 2.67 to be my "last computer" ever, since it does everything I need and I don't need to keep upgrading the software. But, ha! We'll see how long it lasts. Last ever will probably == I buy a new one in 5 years when this one bites the dust.

I highly doubt Sierra Club, Greenpeace or the like have any serious clout to stonewall such research.

I think we've all missed the point. I think Lucas is playing a little game .. it's called withhold what people REALLY want, so that you can keep selling them what they ALMOST want. This is the reason that star wars was not even out on dvd until now. This is the reason that episodes 1-3 are spaced so far apart... Get the fans really antsy for the next offering. It's a game of carrots and sticks ... and the only real point is to fatten lucasfilms wallet. Lucas seemed to substitute artistic ambitions for financial ones long ago.
