You receive 5 MB of space

When the webspace prices go down... find a clever way to sell 5MBs at high price.
it would be much cheaper, or even free, to set-up a password-protected website. Then write a script so that the website will be automatically unprotected when you fail for 2 days to send a specially formatted email to a special secret email address.
Instead of whining and trying to persuade "the dad" to provide us with wireless, isn't it easier to build it up by ourselves?
There is no need to persuade them to go wireless if they don't want. They see the initial infrastructure cost and are afraid of it, but I think we (the ppl) can volunteer to build up a city network.
Just sacrifice some of your $$ to buy equipment and find some friends in the neighboorhood to start a small wireless network. Then, find more friends to join the network and collect money to buy more equipment. Be sure not to break any laws and not to allow piracy etc, so that your network will survive. After your network grows, startup a nonprofit to collect donations etc and buy a fatpipe to connect it to the Internet.
There are already many projects working like this and they succeed. When they grow up, they even get the gov support and if they are lucky they may even get founding etc:)
volunteerism is always better. This is clearly shown in cases like BSD and GNU and Linux and open content encyclopaedias where unpaid volunteers create much better products than business solutions etc.
See an example in EU: http://www.awmn.gr/
No you cannot use two 1xx Opterons to build a duallie, because the 1xx models lack the extra HT links. There is no known mod. They are also locked but you can overclock them by adjusting the reference 200MHz clock.
It's easy:
I have found that my computers working at 100% load 24/7 (MPriming) generate enough heat to keep my room much more warmer than the rest of the rooms here. Although this is undesirable now, in the winter it will be a bless.
I have some creative ideas on what to do with all that spam. How about a program that...
...will attempt to recreate a Shakespeare work from randomly selected words found in spam messages
...will use randomly selected characters from the spam, translated into numbers, to form pi
...will display randomly selected and coloured characters from the spam on the screen as a screensaver
...will extract all ACGT (that's DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine) characters from all the spam, and randomly rearrange them trying to form the DNA or a large part of the DNA of some organism
...will randomly select characters and numbers from spam msgs to feed seeds to an RSA key generator
a CPU-intensive combination of the above
if the program is coded in such a way to waste many cpu cycles at 100% load, it will be able to generate enough heat to warm up your room during the winter (provided the room is small and the program runs on many computers).
Sorry mommy,
I didn't get your last voicemail msgs because the Bayesian filter deleted them. Care to use walkietalkie from now on, since my voip is taken over by spit? (not what u r thinking, I mean the other spit!!!)

Weee! Itanic's sinking! Go AMD go go!!!:):):)
Or perhaps Intel will bomb AMD Dresden fab with the unsold Itanics... too bad for Intel the Itanics don't have pins!!:)
[end:humour]
I wonder what Intel was thinking when designing the Itanic. Even if x86 is not suitable for some applications or not perfect, it is cheap and available everywhere. Adopting a different arch means more cost, both for the hardware and the software but also for hiring new engineers who know how to program the new arch. In a business world which increasingly seeks to minimise cost, it is inevitable that expensive and new archs like IA64 cannot succeed. x86-64 is the way to go now!
If this story is true, then it may be possible that the Russian government is making good money by selling its old space shuttles to rich oil businessmen!:-)
RMS gives very interesting and informative talks on software patents from time to time. Recently I went to such a speech and discovered how rewarding it can be for people who want to understand better the problem with patents. (I wrote some info on my blog). People who are interested on these subjects should have a look at FSF website.
EU should never allow any kind of software patents. Such mistake would destroy the software economy and force small or mid-sized companies to spend more on legal costs rather than software research and development. Also, the patents will not protect small businesses from hungry MegaCorps (tm): These laws are made for MegaCorps, not for protecting innovation. Inventors and programmers do not want and do not need software patents; without public domain stuff you cannot build or invent something new.
I use KDE (it's awesome) and have tried many other environments including gnome, xfce (also very good), and more. I also happen to know about usability. I understand KDE is not adhering to popular usability standards.
So, what?
I chose KDE because it wasn't as simple as gnome. I like KDE and Konqueror because they are full or options and advanced menu choices.
gnome is a great business desktop. It is what a company should have on its PCs so that the employees would not pay attention to anything else except their job.
But KDE is great for the home. and I want it to stay so. There is no need to apply usability theories on the KDE development.
I wonder when the people who buy such stuff will discover that there are very good music pieces with no copyright or with creativecommons/etc licenses...
There is nothing to worry about. The people who want this information will be overloaded by the huge amount of data. They will try to invent new database techniques and filtering algorithms to produce information from this data, but in the end the data will become so much that no algorithm will be able to produce useful processable information from them.

simple, cheap and creative.
I can code an AI web-based or IRC-bot chatting proggie to resemble my personality. So, after I die people will be able to chat with me! (?)
I am happy I am not a subscriber...

You can get a P650 from http://www.matrox.com
A link found from that link has something unusual and I wanted to see whether somebody will discover it.
Definitely EM64T is a clone of AMD64, and not even a good one

90nm Athlon64s 939 soon to be available!
:)
90nm A64s seem to draw much less power than 130nm A64s.
There is also Transmeta which produces the Efficeon CPU and VIA which makes EPIA.
You may also get an AMD Geode

* Label PCs with M$ with "Level 10"
* Label PCs with GNU/Linux with "Level 0"

Usability studies must state the gender of the testers, not just their job.
It isn't just a conincidence that women prefer Mac and men like PCs.
I wonder when the people who buy such stuff will discover that there are very good music pieces with no copyright or with creativecommons/etc licenses...
who needs copyrighted music nowadays?
Now smart slashdotters can start playing the game "how long will it take until we get the bogus letter?"
it's so simple:
1. setup a website with filenames that these folks scan for
2. wait until you get the letter
3. Countersue
4. Profit!!
