  1. you have to increase with more on The History of the Federal Reserve · · Score: 1

The _real_ economy also tends to increase by a few percent each year, so the money supply needs to be increased a few percent each year to compensate for this No, you have to increase it with more in order to have (mild) inflation. That way there is a pressure to invest the money, knowing you lose some (small) value of them if you do nothing.

I wonder why they claim it works on 10 phones only?
They should be able to find the location of every phone connected to the network, only knowing the coordinates of the base station currently in connection with the phone.

    A little off topic
I live in Germany and here one of the gsm operators (o2 Germany) sends the location of the base station as a cbs message. I developed a small aplication for Nokia Symbian phones to read and decode the message and to show the coordinates to the user. If you live or travel to Germany you can download the application here (english page) or a little better looking german page here.

I entertained myself, I can add features like kids tracking but decided it is not worth, because simply the kids don't get a Symbian phone for the birthday :) Probably the next feature I'll implement is to show you the distance to some travel points like cities etc.

There is some use of web server on the mobile device.
You can communicate that way between J2ME and C++ application residing on the phone. The C++ app is the server, and the Millet opens a connection to localhost.
You may ask why to do that?
First to have communication between applications, because there is actually no standard how J2ME applications could communicate with other applications on the phone.
Second, some APIs are exposed only for C++ and not for J2ME. Having a simple web server you can get java programs to use the api as well.

I don't know are they any real applications that use such communication, but the proof-of-concept program is known for years.

That's even much much more true for J2ME than for standard Java. The used JVMs have more bugs than any normal piece of software. I agree, it is much harder to write embedded JVM, you have many different operating systems and hardware, but still some bugs should be found and fixed easy with automated test suite.

I recently found a bug on my Nokia 6600. If you set your time zone to a negative one against Greenwich (for example GMT-2), your application will not start if it is using Calendar functions. Set the time zone back (GMT+1) and it works OK. And worse, it seems the bug can be dated many years back on different Nokia phones and I'm almost sure it is not fixed on the current ones.

And my lovely one is on Nokia 7650. It sends the HTTP header like
    GET / HTTP1,1
    instead of GET / HTTP1.1
if your phone language is one that uses comma for number separation (like German). Switch to English and it works (OK, they were still other bugs to care about). Of course almost every server responds with Bad Request on such one. Tell the user, he need to use English menu, or to go to the service center for firmware upgrade to use your application...

It will make http request with the device user-agent and analyze the content, according to the features supported from the device.
    Shameless plug here

I don't see how the validation will be enforced. Many content providers offer (slightly) different version of the content for different devices. (example big screen phones will have the content on one page, for smaller screens the content will be divided in more pages). The question is, what you will do when only the markup for some, but not all devices is broken?
You can check for some default content, but what is that, when you try to differentiate the pages, according to the user-agent of the phone?
Still, I think some enforcement will be not bad. During the testing of the site (January/February 2005), I could see Yahoo Germany having broken link on it's mobile home page for weeks!
