Perhaps others opposed it because they know that insurance itself is a scam.

You can't be unbiased. What you can do is state what your bias is and report the facts.

Facts are very important. Most news outlets will omit or censor facts. But what I really wanted to reply to was the part about bias:

There is bias, which presents facts from a foregone conclusion. This kind of bias can be very annoying but it is mostly okay. Anyone with intelligence and imagination can extract the real story.

There is another type of bias where facts are presented in a certain order with some facts conveniently left out so that the presenter can tell a story completely and wildly different from what actually happened. Tabloids do this a lot, which is mostly okay because very few people actually believe tabloids.

I would call this latter type of bias, "lying with facts". I think we need a separate term for both types of bias because many people dismiss something merely because the word bias is used.

IIRC, Linux does have an ABI. They just keep changing it around ever so slightly so that closed source drivers have to be recompiled each time a kernel update happens. They do this so it is a pain in the ass for you, the end user, to use closed source drivers.

In other words, this would not be such a problem if some kernel devs were not religious about forcing YOU to use only open source stuff.

I understand their position about wanting everything be open source, but considering the way the world works, they are only being a pain in the ass to users. They will NOT be forcing any companies into open sourcing their drivers through these shenanigans.

Scams and predators... yeah. I have to admit that when my daughter asked me if she could have a MySpace account, I kind of shuddered inside. Eventually, she was going to be out on her own (as she is right now!) and she would need experience dealing with people who want to do things to her, with or without her permission. We had a long talk and her head was in the right place, so I agreed. I am sure she was exposed to some pretty nasty stuff as a young female on the internet. The world is a fucking nasty, evil, hardcore place. I am unsure what pretending the world is all butterflies and rainbows will do for a kid. If they choose to look out of the window and see the rest of the world, I see no benefit in pulling the shades down. *shrug*

I am not here saying that all kids should be given thorough freedom to do as they please. I am saying that if kids are brought up reasonably, they need to be allowed to see the nastier things in life while I am still around to help them understand WTF is going on.
