  1. Re:Azureus on Azureus Inc. Moves Toward Commercialization · · Score: 1

I'm going to seem like a jerk saying this, but...you don't sound like much of an 'experienced' user then. Azureus is simple to use. Its a point and click application...what *does* make a difference is if you are trying to use plugins or if you're behind a router. There is plenty of information in their FAQ if you read through their site. Really the only con to Az is that it utilizes java...which still hogs too many resources imo. I hate the orig. BT client as it has basically no options. There is no inherent 'protection'. Perhaps I'm missing something? If there are add-ons/plugins for the program, please, do inform me. Honestly I don't see what Az will gain by gong commericial. They have to know that once they do just about all the people using it will convert to something different. Unless...of course they are able to provide some sort of decent legit content along with full support. The full support will be the breaker. If people purchase a product, yet can't get help on configuring it then they will not use it or try to return it.

  3. Torrentbits may be gone, but more out there on MPAA to Sue BitTorrent Tracker Servers · · Score: 1
I'm pretty sad to see Torrentbits go, but there are many other sites out there to pick up the slack from all the users that are left. There are probably 2 main sites that are getting most of the TB users, but I'll let you figure out which 2. These sort of sites are here to stay just as p2p is. Once the gov.'t and industries realize this they will adapt.

A few things will most likely happen:

    1. The industry will moan and groan until the gov.'t does something. Namely puts new legislation into work and actually enforce said legislation. (some of which is slowly being done)

    2. Massive public outcry about the industries involved get the government to side with them. (less likely to happen. ie:PACs, special interests groups give large sums of money to the government officals (interrupted as payoffs) in order to get their ways)

    3. Governments continue to do what they are doing, which is systematically take out the servers providing these services. Ensuring the status quo remains as newer networks will always emerge.

As for going to the movie theater. That is purely a personal choice. If you don't like a movie, movie theater, etc don't go and don't complain about it. End of story. On the other hand if you d/l a movie and like it at least have the decency to see it in the theaters so people who made the movie get paid. Movie theaters get their income mainly from conessions, not the ticket sales. I get this information from several people whom I've known to work at theaters and were in superviosry positions. But don't make some stupid self-righteous comment because downloading movies is illegal and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. So be prepared for the consequences if you choose to do so, but please, please don't come and complain about it when you get busted or the place you d/l shuts down. There are more out, if all else setup a private ftp only for your friens that is how this all started in the first place.

Are you on crack? You have to be a complete moron to be using MS Word to edit webpages. If someone doesn't have a decent editor such as Homesite or heaven forbid Dreamweaver then MS Notepad would be a good choice. Microsoft Word is a NOT what you want to use for making webpages. That is like having someone create a page with Frontpage ( a POC imo). Frontpage adds a ton of garbage code that is horrendous. If you've read any decent books on webpage coding you might know this as pretty much all of them advise starting with Notepad if you use Windows.
I can't even believed you mentioned Indian outsourcing. The offshore tech support for companies now are nigh shy of seeming intelligent. All they provide is cheaper labor, due to US citizens demanding cheaper products.
You must be the manager of the IT department and not an actual IT pro. Perhaps I am just taking your post too seriously; I realize some people make posts in jest. If that is not the case I weap for those IT people that lost their jobs due to people like you!

  5. HL2 release details on Valve Takes the Offensive on Warez Users? · · Score: 3, Insightful
Apparently you people don't know what your talking about in regards what has been going on with the Half-Life 2 release.

I'm sure Valve was happy that there was not an illegal release of their game a few weeks or even a few days before the actual release date. (This is with exception to the beta leak, which was unfinished) It is my opinion that Valve has become stupified by other companies as well as greedy (although the greed may have stemmed from VU).

Within hours of the HL2 unlocking there was a warez version available. This version was warez version was then "nuked" as it was found to not work. A fix was later posted that fixed the nuked version of the warez. There was also a way to circumvent the steam login, but Valve finally caught onto that one and now probably logs all people trying to do that. (if that is possible; if you don't know what I'm talking about use google)

What bothers me the most about HL2 is the fact that you have to log into steam every single time you want to play a single player game. If I pay 50+ (US) I better be able to play it without having to do anything special other than putting a serial key in. So what if the game gets pirated. I haven't seen a game in recent years that hasn't been pirated, yet the more popular games still make millions and line the pockets of the game makers/publishers. I am not ncessarily promoting pirating games, but what I am saying is that a game maker shouldn't build their game completely around such protection. It ends up ruining the ease of use with the consumer. This also takes away the some of the ownership of the game. Also, what happens if the steam servers go down for some reason, be it maintaince or something else? Personally I don't like this system of having to logon to the internet for a single player game. As that is what Half-Life 2 is a single player game, yes it has multiplayer capabilities, but at the core it is a single player game. Those are just some of my views of the whole deal.

I agree with you on that. If no one has taken a Sociology class or something simliar you won't know what this guy is talking about. Unless of course you learned it on your own somewhere. (Not sure if they teach this in accounting or not, I could see why they would though)

As all of those who try to put a byte size to the internet, why are you trying? Due to the people connecting up to the net and people upgrading, it is impossible I believe to really know. The internet has become a place of infinite space. It is outer space in a theoretical realm. If you don't understand this concept then you don't fully understand the internet. To this day I am still in awe when the google box sits in front of me; as I have barely scratched the surface of this invisible universe.

That dell or gateway commercial (with the old guy and wireless) showed it best. I never really thought about it until I downloaded a 5MB file the other day using wireless. Sending a zipped file through the air. Now that is amazing....think about!

So, with what you have said would you listen to advice that: "It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world.."? This excerpt is from George Washington's farewll address. He advocated isolationism for the United States. We know that this is near impossible. Especially with people like Saddam and Osama. The fact still remains that neither should be left free to roam the country sides of the Middle East. As far as Bush being a "boob", sure he has done some things that have not been seen as "good" in the public eye. Name a president that has not done the same. You'll be hard pressed. Every president has done or said something that either upset the public or went against what they had promised.

The point is who would be better at running the country as a whole. And just to clear things up. The Constitution never really says that political parties are needed to run the government. Those cropped up due to the government as a whole having thier own agendas which imo have polluted our governing system.
