You know what is the funniest part...the whole construction was basically put on hold because the US space shuttle wasn't in use. How the hell can this thing be world built if we're the only freak'n people putting shit into space?
How's about the rest of the world waste some of their cash to build rockets to pick up the slack? You know what will happen. The US will be the first major country to populate space and everyone will bitch about how we own this and that in space. We can never win.
Yeah, I know some other parts are built by other countries, but it'd be nice to see other space shuttles actually get up there and help out. This thing would be a little more useful if it was getting various visits on a constant basis. Yes, making it that more dangerous...nothing happens without practice/risk.
Meh. Both have their issues though. Plasma has a life span that really isn't determinable. Its user dependent. However the older notion of it dying in like 5yrs has changed, as more recent technology has more or less fixed this issue in plasmas. However I fail to see how they can still out last an old school crt that has been well cared for. LCD = dead pixels, which are factored into the return policies and not for the good.
"...Under Dell's policy, which considers a screen defective only if it has six or more faulty pixels..." - from an article on cnets page about dead pixels cnet article -note that the quote is pulled in reference to a laptop...and an article on plasmas article
WTF....this is ALREADY available in programs of the likes of Azuerus and other BT clients. Its also been stated on here its available on emule.
Does it work? yes. Is it really that helpful? No, not really. Occasionally I'll comment on something, but only if its a popular file and if people have asked whether the file in question actually works, etc.
What the RIAA would *love* to do is patent this idea, which obviously has already been created by countless others, so that it may sue the hell out of the names attached to the list. A complete moron could see this. Who the hell does the RIAA think its kidding?
Sadly I'm wondering if this won't fly here in the US, unless they've already tried and failed...then again they may try to be all quiet and behind the door about it.
Also who's to say someone won't attach some fake name to the comments? Hell I could name myself Darth Vader or d4thw4alk3r or some other lame hax0r name.
Cooling the body doesn't stop the processes that happen in the body. It slows them down. So you still age. You don't end up like Fry from Futurama or Jason from Jason X. Just like "freezin" food in your freezer doesn't kill the germs it just slows them down, so that you can eat the food before the germs on the food can eat it and multiply.
I don't see why we couldn't put people away for a bit in cold storage and bring them back out, but I think for periods of decades is a very far stretch with current tech. Down the road this might be possible and I hope it is from a space exploration stand point.
You're not dead in suspended animation. A suspension doesn't mean stopped and animation doesn't mean non-motion. Not to mention a person isn't declared dead unless they are brain dead. Since you technically aren't brain dead while in suspended animation I fail to see why anyone would assume a person is dead if put in suspension. Unless of course they haven't read any science books, taken science in either HS or college as both of the basics of these topics are covered....but who knows maybe I'll end up delivering a pizza to some lab at midnight and get knocked into a cryogen pod. Personally I think it would suck because every single loved one you've ever known would be dead. Sure you might have a ton of money assuming the government doesn't snatch it up for itself during some war.
Which brings up another good point. You're only ok in suspension if the building you are located in is ok. There are a million things that could go wrong that would be out of the hands of the people looking over you. World Wars don't typically have boundries. We still have yet to be invaded by a foreign power, which as the decades go by I see more and more likely at some point. Not in my lifetime I'm sure, but hell Rome fell. Why can't we?
That is exactly what I was thinking. I was like "hell, its time to pay for everything with cash now." Save the more important items (ie. car, house, apt, etc) for credit.
As far as online info goes..time to use John Doe for everything (except when the situation requires real info for fear of a fraud investigation). Sort of stinks because I liked the deals I had online. Guess its back to brick and mortar.
Also...if my data is stolen/lost who can I sue? Did they ever find all those losts federal HDs? Yeah didn't think so.
Wow. You've got to get a signature just to buy more legit toner/ink? That seems a bit ridiculous to me. I mean I can understand making sure that the paper work is done so it comes out of the company chauffers and is 'in the system' as it were. But to get multiple signatures on simple things is a little over the top. If you had to put that policy in place due to theft, then you've got bigger problems that should be dealt with accordingly.
I mean if workers steal something along the lines of laptops, etc. then by all means prosecute their asses. No wonder businesses have gotten grubby with the consumers. They hire (some) theives and then the company turns a blind eye and just fires them for the worker to become someone elses problem (hopefully a competitor?). I think common sense in this country is going out the door.
At my job I constantly get calls asking what the person owes when they've got the bill right in front of them.
(for the spelling nazis' if I spelled anything incorrectly my thanks now for correcting me...including a spell check at some point would be nice. If just to save time from having to either 1. look the word up in a dictonary or 2. google the word)
Porn is like crack. You hand it out freely to people, then those who really like it but too 'right' to just take it will buy it. Just like those 'tards who steal to buy/get crack. There a ton of people addicted to porn. The porn industry is able to stay afloat because they keep their product out in the open (even if people are embarrased to buy them) to download, watch, burn, etc. VHS is dead and I don't think will be coming back so DVD & downloading are the only alternatives. HD-DVD and Blue Ray are due out soon as well. I'm guessing they'll end up backing both formats so as to reap more profits.
On a side note...I can guess that porn stars don't get nearly as much pay as a Hollywood star. With that said I don't see a porn star living like crap either... So it begs to reason wtf Hollywood stars think they deserve to get paid an ever increasing amount of $$ because a movie that was written by someone we will probably never remember(or know) was a huge hit. IMO the movie stories and ALL the people involved make a great film, not just one crappy actor. Example: MI3...was good, not because of Cruise, but because the movie was put together well (very action packed), the plot twists also helped. Screw Cruise.
Seeing as they don't even have the power to pass this legislation anything that does pass could reasonably just be found unconstitutional.
Amendment X

I don't know what perspective you guys are reading this from, but since I work for a small ISP I see it from that point of view. And I can see how it could quickly become a problem if it were abused.
ATM there has to be some manual work in digging through e-mail to determine whether something is legit or spam, and if its spame where it actually originated from. I can't count the number of times I'll get an e-mail from some ignorant person using gmail or yahoo declaring that a customer of ours is sending spam when in reality its someone spoofing our domain (which no one can prevent). Utilizing SPF is somewhat of a wash because in order for SPF to work everyone needs to use it otherwise those who don't use SPF get the spoofed messages.
According to the article the US is actually in the lower end of the spectrum concerning piracy yet its our citizens who get the lead pipe over the head? If the **AA's are going to bitch then they better bitch about the right groups and people not regular consumer/citizens. This could probably go for the same in the UK (as I don't live there I don't know).
Its always been the asian countries (with a small exception to Japan), I know from past articles I've read China is a huge issue. But the ones who get clubbed are the US citizens because we're easily reached. Don't get me wrong I'm all for taking down the jerk-offs selling the bootlegs out of their trunks, etc. But for the **AA's to sue families who they know don't have the income to pay outrageous settlement amounts (yet know they have some money is ridiculous.
You know, its funny too. I was going to buy a cd off Amazon the other day and the damn thing is "Copy Protected". Upon further reading this crap "...may not work with some or all CD/DVD drives..." So a cd I buy might not even play at all? I could have possibly bought a very shiny coster? This doesn't even delve into whether I'll be able to put the songs onto my Creative Zen.
I'm glad they feel safe in this day and age for if it were the medieval days they surely would have either been burned at the stake or stoned to death by a huge mob with axes, torches, and pitchforks....now I'm off to take my meds.
a speak'n spell. Even at my young age of 23 I remember those things. Its pretty nifty that they have multiple colors, sort of like swatches. Collect'em all! lol.
Seriously though I have to applaud these guys for creating something that will help out a ton of kids/people around the world. Congrats guys.
whether to pre-order the PS3. There is enough time before launch to save up the cash. If I don't (get enough cash) I can always bow out of the pre-order and get the $50 bucks that is put down. I have not pre-ordered yet as the stores where I shop aren't taking pre-orders quiet yet.
Quiet frankly I'm not too surprised. I had a strong guess that the price point would be around $500 (US). Future consoles aren't going to go down in price, they're going to go up. You are a fool to believe that the more bleeding edge tech that comes in these things is going to come cheap.
For instance look at gaming video cards for the PC. The more advance they get the more expensive they are becoming when they first come out. As it has been all the people wanting to be first in line and on the bleeding edge will suck up the cost for the rest of the populace. After they've paid back to the company what it was losing then they normally drop the price. I remember when the latest graphics cards were around $200(US). Now bleeding edge cards cost around $500(US). Oh wow look at that $500 bucks just for a video card. Now compare this to the PS3 that is going to be a full system. If you were to build a PC that would be anything near the PS3 then you would be plopping down over $1k for sure.
Granted Blue-ray did up the cost on the system by a lot. Say $200(US). So with that in mind the system should cost somewhere around $300(US) for the core system. And the argument that was suggesting Sony shot themselves in the foot with the Blue-ray was interesting. I belive it made a good point. Which is why I'm still shaky about pre-ordering. But that is assuming all the stand alone Blue-ray players are going to be above the $500/$600(US) mark. And why is this any different from MS offerring a HD-DVD drive for the xbox for a price that is also cheaper than an HD-DVD player?
I believe in the end gamers will choose based on the games that come out for each console. And from what I've seen of the E3 information PS3 looks to be a winner in that area. There were maybe a total of 3 games that looked like complete winners for the Xbox 360, whereas I saw about 5 games for the PS3. And it seems some games you can actually get for the PC; Halo? As I recall a port of Halo2 is supposed to come to the PC unless they've decided to nix that idea. Xbox's ability to play some Xbox titles is a step in the right direction. Although they require a downloaded emulator.
Eh? There are plenty of pissed off people in this country. The problem is that the news doesn't really report about it that much. As its been breaking new-er news basically every other day; in regards to our government. The problem is that our government seems to like sweeping our complaints under the carpet and whistling while they work.
Its my opinion all 3 branches need to be completely cleaned out and new people voted into place; with exception to the offices that are appointed. The problem is that the majority of voters (that actually vote) are a bunch of sheep and believe most of what they see on tv.
I will admit that I voted for Bush. Would I have changed my vote? no. And the reason being that Kerry (imo) didn't give me a good reason for voting for him. Had the dems run someone more able than Kerry I would have probably voted a different way. Most of my concerns don't really involve Bush anyways. He doesn't control how Congress works. The House and Senate are the main people I have gripes. In the end they are the ones who vote on the different bills being passed. Even if Bush vetos the House can override.
Why do I feel like we're setting up for another dot.com bust? I know this has been talked about before, but still. It seems like these things will be fads and in a few years they won't be "cool" anymore even with the fresh generations coming up. Who is to say what this gen finds cool the next will as well?
you've got it all wrong. Its going to run Microsoft Windows Election Edition or (Wee). Bill Gates will be included as the default candidate. Any person choosing another candidate will immediately recieve a BSOD.
This shows how far gone our Federal Government has been. The Constitution never gave the power to the Federal Government to blackmail/coerce the people into what it wants. Congress over time gave themselves that power and the people allowed them to do so.
at this point. Also for thost who are worried about radiation from a cell phone, use a headset. You can get a cheap headset for under $20. Personally I'd prefer a bluetooth headset, but I'm cheap and use the one that Sony Ericsson included with my phone. Cell phone not next to my head means no brain tumor, its a no brainer to me.
So what happens when you leave a cell phone in your lap?
Well what if a person commits a minor crime and the NSA picks up on it over tapped lines? or someone brags about stealing some crappy new game? The NSA then hands that info over to the local authorities, etc, etc.
As happy as they may make some people that sort of law enforcement encroaches on your constitutional rights.
You are to be innocent until proven guilty, no matter if someone thinks you are guilty or even you are guilty. The government HAS to prove you are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt it seems to me people don't understand the part about doubt you have to prove past that. If a juror has a doubt, then by conscience that juror should be voting not guilty. Too many times these days people vote guilty because they want revenge, justice, etc.
I'm not saying its right to steal, but when the Federal government starts to get involvled into state or local issues then there is something wrong in which our government is opperating. I suggest we all take a break, read our Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Then see if you like how things are.
I don't see the NSA handing info over to other agencies down the line too far fetched. Someone gets busted because evidence came against them from some cloaked agency and its undisputed. I mean I agree with arresting criminals, but do it legally following the legal process. IE: Cops do the leg work, the prosecutor goes to court, etc. It may seem like I'm griping for criminals, but what happens when they screw up and get you mixed up with someone totally different, like mentioned above?
Well, if you read enough of the site and comments you'll see some one speculating that there IS going to be a new policy of some sort of crazy ass dress code of what you can't wear into their stores now. Seems f'd up if you ask me.
I fail to see how a store can dictate what you can and cannot wear while shopping. Its funny how people can assume so quickly that a bunch of people are conspiring just because they happen to where the same type of clothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Now I'm not saying impersonating is a good thing. I'm not even saying that is what happened here. If you read the statements from the people involved as well as watch the videos you can clearly tell they did not say they were employees. They may have helped out a fellow citizen find an item or help make a choice on an item. But that is not impersonation. And since when did just browsing a store become an offense? I can browse all the hell I want without purchasing an item. That is all I do half the time anyways. I go from BB, to CC, then to Target and just look. Finding the best deal is important to me because I like my hard earned cash.
This shows how much a pole is stuck up Big Buisness' ass. It also shows you the compentancy of our law enforcement officers also known as 'Peace Officers' or 'Keeper's of the Peace'. From what I could tell the only people making a big stink and upsetting the peace were the managers.
So what is to happen now if a regular joe citizen is to walk into a Best Buy with a pair of kahkis and nice blue shirt and also just happens to wear black shoes as well? I'd say Best Buy would be taking a nice stroll to the local court.
All in all. I found it funny, but at the same time distrubing that both our law enforcement officers would act in such a way as well as company who is SUPPOSED to be at your beck seeing as they NEED your money to stay in business. Just my 0.02
...that the Google icon was missing when you switch to use the goole search instead of MSN? There was another one missing, but I forget what it was...I've already uninstalled the IE7 beta 2.
I'm not sure how much this beta will be of the final version, but MS certainly has some time left to change it after the outcry. Granted I'm not for MS, but I'm also keeping an open mind about the facts. Its a beta and might possibly change, god I hope so. The GUI is ass backwards imo. They should have just added tabbed browsing (without the gay quick tab), then added all the 'security' changes to it and the ability to uninstall it if the user so chooses. Which is what I choose to do in the end. I actually was sort of giddy that I was able to uninstall Internet Explorer in XP. Granted IE7 in XP is still going to have some files linked to windows as that is the way the OS is programmed, but still neat concept.
But I know for sure that the new layout is going to confuse the hell out of the normal Joe user. They failed to be like Firefox in the end. Nice try MS. Maybe IE 8, 9, 10? Even when all is said and done I'll probably just stick with Firefox, they seem to be on top of their game for now.
Agreed. I'm sure if a long hard somewhat un-biased study was done we would find that the top people in coperate america are the reasons why prices are so high. Granted the people who actually are on the boards of these company pull the strings, silently in the background. 'Unseen' forces these people are.
We do need to have something of a 'revolution' if you ask me. There are always points in history where these are warranted and certainly the time for one is coming. I'm not trying to spout doomsday ideas, but the way our government/big businesses function need to change. All this buying of politicans has corrupted our government to the extent I belive we need to wipe just about everyone in office out and start with a clean slate. Repeal about a billion laws that were put into place, many without the real knowledge of the people. Most laws people don't hear about until either a news story breaks about it or some corperate company is going to court.
I believe we need a man like Thomas Jefferson in office. He'd surely put the RIAA to rest once and for all. Although he might take to the banks shortly thereafter. lol. If you want a good read then pick up The Constitution in Exile by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano (he's the guy on Fox News). While he may appear on Fox news, do not assume that he's some sort of extremist right wing guy he is not. This guy deals out a lot of interesting facts.

I can now get my car up to 1.21 jigawatts! Now just to get those flying upgrades...
you've got it all wrong.
So what happens when you leave a cell phone in your lap?
please point out the line in the Constitution that gives the Federal Government the authority to dictate what I'm able to do on a school computer?
Not there? Thought so.
