I think you have to consider the order of payoffs though.
The hypocritical 'not the Christian values I learned' Christian right writes a very large check both in votes and in money. Media also writes large checks in both, but they aren't going to get upset by a few 'moral' regulations as long as they get the relaxed market regulations.
You are right about the impact schools have on the community. But the schools both locally and on the state level are very good. Wisconsin has continued to rank highly and where I live we have some of the best schools in the state due to all of the money from those flatlander Illinois tourists.
This really isn't a federal problem, you can see that barely 5% of education funding in WI is federal money. This is pretty typical. I can't complain about my federal income taxes being wasted on education. I'd have to complain on the state and local level, and I think they are doing a good job.
Personally I do think education should be more heavily funded on the federal level and not based on property taxes like in so many places.
Society gets what it deserves in many cases though. Parents are willing to raise money for the football team, but when a referendum for more money for education is on the ballot, they always vote it down.
I thought the last sentence in the footnotes was the most interesting.
If a bunch of actual adults suddenly found themselves trapped in high school, the first thing they'd do is form a union and renegotiate all the rules with the administration.
Getting all the high school students together to form a union would be awesome. Sure they can't vote, but they could have some influence via walkouts and donations to PACs.
If I were in that situation, I wouldn't complain about the money, I'd complain about what they are doing wrong. Taking half their money away isn't going to solve the real problem.
Insteed work to identify what the problem is so that it can be fixed or at least partially dealt with. If you do that, then eventually the cost will drop to your $5000 a student and you can get you tax decreased or spent on something more productive.
I agree that more money usually isn't the answer to society's problems, but less money is never the answer, but it might be the result.
Don't learn foil, the target is torso only. Sabre wouldn't be bad, but I'd recommend epee. Full body target and fewer arbituary rules.
Of course, there can be only one and I've been doing it for awhile now....
This is the same legal and philosophical ground you cover when you setup a living will for yourself or decide not that your ederly parents on a ventilator.
We might breed luckier people.
It is likely that the longer a person lives, the more children they will have. But the longer a person lives is likely to mean that they were smarter and luckier than the rest of the population. They weren't dumb enough to walk in front of jet engines or to poke at animals, and they look both ways before crossing the street.
You just might end up with a population that is more intelligent since stupidity will catch up with people in the long run.
Lets assume social security was solvent - that modern payees were putting more money into it than beneficiaries were taking out.
This is true you DOLT! The projection is that in 13 years from now we will start to spend more than we take in and will have to start spending the savings that we have been generating over the years.
but these are things that need to be studied
Boy if only there were somebody in a place of influence who had the ability to direct funding to such a study. I wonder who might be able to do that?
Apparently blacks are better at all sports except for Hockey. Hockey of course is a sport that whites are geneticly suited to since it does not use any of the same skills that other sports use.
I gotta agree with you on that one, I just finished my Master's at Northwestern and white men were definitely the minority. Women to Men were about even, but whites were at best 20% of the class.
Another thing to consider, is that the majority of people in the working world are not attending top level programs. A basic understanding of statistics would tell you that unless you are from Lake Wobegon, that isn't possible.
Common misconception there, but economics is not about money. Business is about money. Economics is about scarcity and how to make decisions to deal with the problem of scarcity.
It just happens that money seems to be one of the scarce things everybody cares about. Anyway, you don't go into econ to become rich, that's what business majors are for. Econ majors are just applied logic geeks.
The result doesn't have to be a perfect model, just a more accurate model. If you think our models are currently only 75% accurate, then if this can boast them to 80% great. Maybe we'll make that many more people's lives better.
I think they are also dealing along the lines of demand side microeconomics and not monetary policy macroeconomics. Yes they influence eachother, but it seems unlikely people the majority of the population will have any feeling other than bordeom with questions about the Reserve Bank's monetary policy.
I think it would be interesting to see similar studies done in other countries and historic data for this. It seems to me that here in the U.S. we have become more interested in instant gratification, which is clearly an emotional response as the article suggests they are seeing.
Someone else may be able to explain why that is or blame it on MTV, but this would appear to be one of the results. Perhaps we as a nation have just been encouraged by too many social workers and such to be too emotional and not rational enough any more.
for one, opera doesn't block it's own adverts.
Of course it does, you just have to pay for it. Which I feel is worth it, but I'll respect those that don't.
their mobile browser for s60 is pretty good though.
Yeah, my understanding is that is the market where most of their money comes from now.
you can't deny that firefox has been invading the opera's region, when some would have earlier dl'd opera they dl firefox instead.
One, I don't think Opera's usage stats really have gone down much, they just haven't skyrocketed like Firefox because of the large amounts of press. I could be wrong, I'm too lazy to look it up, and most sites are biased one way or another anyway. Besides, just because most people use one thing, doesn't make it better. Otherwise M$ makes the best shit in the world.
Finally, I love the fact that I can quit opera and open it back up with all of my sites open and ready to go again. The applications of this are great, you can save sessions for all different types of browsing. I have them saved for hardware pricing, news, sports and such. You can have everything you're interested in open up with one click.
You get $50 in birthday money? Boy you're spoiled, all I got was this lousy t-shirt.
I think he might have been trying to quote The Simpsons.
Bart thinking: "Good old rock, nothing beats rock."
Lisa thinking: "Poor predictable Bart, always chooses rock."
Man I love lasagna, send me the receipe.
Show me your's and I'll show you mine.

'We shouldn't be going to war' Powell > 'We've never made a mistake' Rice
'You have no rights' Ashcroft > 'You have no rights and it's ok for us to torture you' Gonzalez
The new guy will probably be some hypocrit like Rupert Murdoch

Won't be a problem, you'll be able to grow new ones. http://www.nydailynews.com/09-27-2002/news/story/2 2064p-20931c.html

You could use crystal. Get a high enough lead content it'll mess with the signal. Hell, if Superman can't see through it, it'll stop wardrivers.
