Women that go to bars are generally looking to have sex, which is probably what you really meant when you said your roommate "dates" 60 to 70 women a year. If you want to have lots of sex with women you meet in bars, then you've got to sculpt yourself like a manwhore and develop a routine of superficial bravado.

If you guys spent the time you spend on slashdot beefing up your skills with women and exercising, you'd probably find some chick. Fact of the matter is: women over the age of 25, are desperate for intelligent, nice, financially stable men. Younger than that, women are still looking for traditional masculine stereotypes. If you're young, you may need to hold out for a little while. Sorry. In the mean time, you can 'comfort' yourself with the fact that men are declining in every subject other than computer science. This is leading to an over educated female population. And when these women move from college girls to yuppies, they're going to realize they want somebody more intelligent, less volatile, and more succesful. 15. Re:Refund on Marquette Dental Student Suspended For Blogging · · Score: 1

I disagree. The issue is not whether of not Marquette can set its own policies -- they can. The issue is whether or not they can apply their policies spuriously and vindictively against disliked members of the student body -- they cannot. That would be a breach of contract. Marquette's policy does not prohibit blogging or making negative statements about one's professors. To punish this student, the administration has falsely accused him of "stalking, hazing or harassments". This is a bullshit charge. The charge is being made purely to retaliate against the student. That's Illegal. Whether or not you think this is a "first amendment" issue, this is absolutely an abuse of power, and a threat to free speech.

  16. Re:Refund on Marquette Dental Student Suspended For Blogging · · Score: 1

All you libertarians shouting about the rights of private institutions are missing the point. By claiming the student engaged in "stalking, hazing or harassments" because of a few dickhead remarks he made in his own blog, Marquette is obviously hitting this guy with bullshit, trumped-up charges to punish him for saying negative things about the university. Let me emphasize this: Marquette is abusing its own policies to retaliate against and punish an outspoken critic. Marquette has no stated policy against blogging. Yes, the university can set whatever policies they want, but they have no "right" to apply them spuriously and vindictively. In Libertarian speak: Marquette has entered into a contract with this student, and they are in violation of that contract by invoking a clause regarding the a breach of ethics when no breach of ethics was incurred.

So even if you don't acknowledge this as a "first amendment" case, it's still an abuse of power that will have a chilling effect on free speech.

I agree entirely. As time continues all the articles get better. For static subjects like math, this means that Wikipedia's articles are eventually going to be as good as anywhere else. For dynamic subjects, Wikipedia can provide up-to-date information which can serve as a good starting point for continued research.

One mechanism that people haven't mentioned for maintaining quality is that good authors take pride in their articles and ensure that nobody fucks them up. For instance, I'll adopt a page on Wikipedia such as this one and I'll add it to the watchlist and check every single edit that's made. Thus, the quality of that page will strictly increase.
