  1. How can YOU READ THAT article on Why Vista Release Date Really Slipped · · Score: 2, Insightful

Did anyone else find this to be quite annoying while reading the article? I mean, geez is it a comic book or a freaking blog entry?

  2. Re:Blu-Ray all the way! on DVD Truce Between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD? · · Score: 5, Informative

Wrong. It uses a blue laser, and is 15 GB for a single-sided disc and 30 for dual-sided. I agree that Blu-Ray is better, but try and get the facts straight.

  3. Extended Edition DVD? on Ask 'Hitchhiker's Guide' Exec. Producer Robbie Stamp · · Score: 2, Insightful

How much filmed material will not make it into the movie, and is making an extended edition a possibility?

Constantly? I keep hearing how Slashdot displays incorrectly in Firefox, but would you mind specifying how exactly it displays it wrong? Is something unalligned, or is it using incorrect font sizes or something? I've used Firefox on Windows, OSX and several Linux flavors, but I've not seen any difference between how it displays in IE, Firefox, Opera or Konqueror... (Disclaimer: not arguing that it displays incorrectly, would just like a description of howso. A screenshot would be nice.)

  6. Messenger Plus on Sneak Peek At Microsoft Anti-Spyware · · Score: 2, Interesting

Messenger Plus is labelled 'adware', and yet MSN Messenger itself has adware? (bottom of the contact list). Messenger Plus has some neat features to remove the bloat (ads, annoying image links that take up a quarter of) the Contact List as it is.

When installing Messenger Plus, you can agree or disagree to supporting them by having adware thrown all over your PC. I disliked seeing this addition, but just simply disagreed to it to avoid it. Perhaps the person submitting the screens didn't?

(Yes, I'm aware of Gaim, Miranda, yada yada, but to be quite frank Messenger Plus adds a lot of functionality still missing from other chat programs. One of the Messenger Plus features I do like is the ability to "lock" MSN, hiding away all the chat windows and requiring a password to open MSN up again. Handy for those who need to let others on their pc.)

  7. Re:I still find it amusing... on UK Retailers Dumping Gamecube? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Maybe that's because the Gamecube's cheaper than the Xbox, and parents buying a system for their kids would opt for a Gamecube instead, cause of the lower prices?

MS didn't buy anything, their console is succesful with excellent first-party games and third-party support, something the Gamecube lacks.

  8. Now's the time. on UK Retailers Dumping Gamecube? · · Score: 5, Interesting

If you live in the UK, I think now would be the best time to get a Gamecube, if you haven't already. At the current price at Argos, it's selling for cheaper than it is in the US (correct my if I'm wrong, I'm aware of the difference between the pound and the dollar).

There are a good deal of games worth getting for the system that you can find for cheap noawadays. Matroid, the Mario/Luigi games, Zelda Wind Waker, Star Wars, Smash Brothers Melee, amongst others. As an earlier poster stated, they might raise the prices again, so get 'em while they're cheap.

  9. Whining Infants on RIAA/MPAA Contractor Deploys Malicious Adware Trojans · · Score: 1

The RIAA/MPAA are doing this to try and stop pirates from illegally downloading their files? Do they really think anything but porn is encoded to WMV? (or.. so I've heard anyways). The pirates who are up to date could go on downloading whatever they want without ever coming across a virus/worm/adware/whatever because they simply don't use wma/wmv. all the music I see on bittorrent is ogg/mp3/flac/mpc/wav and /avi/mpg/vob/ogm/mkv. This sort of stunt will only motivate people to pirate. They're not hurting an innocent little company when they pirate, they're ripping off a shady company that will resort to under-handed tactics. This will only drive more pirates into doing it even more, and feeling good about it. All they've done is remove the guilt from pirating. (Not that they haven't been using under-handed tactics before, just now moreso, and they've lowered themselves to spammers/virus writers in the process). Fsck 'em, bring on the torrents.

I mentioned it in an earlier thread, but according to Guild Wars' FAQ at http://www.guildwars.com/, it will not have a monthly fee when it comes out. And thanks to filtering, the game looks pretty good too. It's the only MMORPG I've ever considered, based on the no-monthly-fee fact alone.
