forget interarchy for sftp, check out panic's transmit. it is a very well constructed cocoa application and is $25 USD rather than interarchy's $45, but if cost is really an issue you can look into fugu a free sftp cocoa app written by the university of michigan coding cowboys...
couldn't the user above tunnel their connections though?
yann arthus-bertrand's absolutely tremendous photography was on display in chicago late this summer. yann took his images from a helicopter so i can imagine they are a bit more costly than its little brother kite. these images are nothing short of amazing.
the opendarwin project is not hosted by apple (would that make sense?) but rather by the internet software consortium. the problems were network bound not hardware bound and thus we may or may not have used an excessive amount of bandwidth shortly after the article was posted on slashdot. the files that were generating a majority of said traffic, have been mirrored elsewhere to alleviate the opendarwin's local resource consumption. oops.
opensource.apple currently redirects users to opendarwin.org to fetch the iso, but unfortunately opendarwin.org has been taken offline. in the interim the following mirrors are available...
It's really hard to be slower than Mac OS 9, with it's gulag of partially native/partially emulated I/O paths, but Mac OS X DP4 manages it . This may improve by the public beta or the final release.
are you a complete moron? mac os x dp4 is a developer's release not for general consumption. would you expect developer releases of say photoshop to be fully optimized and near as speedy as the final product? dp4 is a pre-beta release, your expectations for pre-beta software are quite high and i would wonder what your standing is based on. even when the public beta is released i wouldn't expect that it will be in its speed-finalized form. os x is not just another kludge building os - it is completely reconstructed (while firmly structured on next). give apple some credit and some time to construct the os properly.
perhaps tech jobs are the meat packers of the 21st century in desguise. bluring the fact to the public through our large(r) paychecks, the abundance of gadgets and ipo's.
the more we get connected, the more we disconnect from real human interaction.
don't get me wrong i am a gadget-techno-info starved individual but i feel that the progress we are making with technology is depersonalizing our interactions. instead of conversations face to face, we have conversations with individuals via e.mail many of which we have never met and never will. with the introduction of electronic means of communication we remove ourselves from real communication. when was the last time you received a letter from a friend? (not that you printed out!) so much emotion and meaning is lost when reading someones thoughts through generic text. digital communication is depressing and leaves much to be desired.
with the increasing plague of plastic interactions, it is no wonder that social disfunction has progressed to the point that it has. while not responsible it does provide bodies for the plague to infect.
next time you want to talk to a friend or loved one (*gasp*) instead of e.mailing them call or write a letter. digital means cannot substitute or simulate emotion.
I've heard that the tendons that connect your wrist to your fingers (running up the back side of your hand) become very sore, strained and stick out. I know I have had this a few times and dismissed it due to the weird angle I have been typing at.
