Replacing ball joints and tie rods? How many miles were you putting on a car that you need to change these items? Usually they are easily 100k service intervals. Most people never change them.

Unless your driving an SUV which punishes suspension components.

Images of my old luggable IBM 8088 Portable Computer come to my mind now. I had it modded up with an EGA card and big monitor along with a "gaming" card that had a game port and PC speaker.

Spent years playing games like Dangerous Dave, Hover Tank, Catacombs, Commander Keen, and Duke Nukem 1 - 3 side scrollers on that thing.

Then Wolfenstein and Doom came. I've spent so much time in Doom that I can probably run through the first nine levels of the shareware by memory again. Strangely enough most of my early game experiences were the result of a few people. Namely John C. and John R. and crew. Either working independently, together at GamersEdge or when they started id.

More recent games that I will always love to play no matter,

TIE Fighter (I would love a new space sim with the pace and feel of this classic)

    C&C

Any Decent Adventure Game (What happened to all the Kings Quests and 7th Guest type games?!? At least LSL is still kicking)

    Master of Orion 2

    SimCity Series

    StarCraft

    Diablo 1 & 2

Quake (Fastest Deathmatch Game EVER! I still know every inch of the dm2 map)

I think the description from the article is rather nebulous. Whats the threshold for a more fuel efficient car? What are the constraints that you must dictate to achieve some form of practicatility? To me this seems too easy.

Personally I see this as more as an integration and manufacturing challenge. Engine development would be minimal. We already have all the parts of the equation but they are seperate.

Why? We already have concept cars that achieve over 100 mpg figures with lowering vehicle weight and significantly cutting drag. The problem stems from the fact they are one offs with a massive investment required in building them with current manufacturing processes.

The other problem is manufacturers tend to shy away from developing super low Cd cars since the average consumer wouldn't be caught dead driving one.

  4. Informed on Release Day on No More Players for World of Warcraft - For Now · · Score: 1
I posted this very topic on the release date 11/23. Just a little immature with the time table.

When I bought my copy on release day the guy at Gamestop told me to tell ALL of my friends who intended to play WoW to go buy it and buy it that day. He said once the initial shipment sells out thats it until Jan' 05 - Feb '05, as Blizzard does not want to max out their servers.

I didn't really believe it at the time, but I actually would expect Blizzard to take this stance. Was just a little off with the time required to max out the servers.

I really don't want to add to any speculation, but I found this rather interesting.

BTW, I tried to pre-order the CE at my preferred Gamestop back in late September yet was denied as they sold out already. Huh? I never heard of a CE game actually being limited in production, at least upon the initial release. I mean I can STILL buy Quake 3 in the tin from some stores!

Just during lunch I went to go pick up my reversed copy. I over-heard and was later told some interesting things. The manager was talking to someone about WoW, I could just tell. Sure enough after he hangs up he tells me to tell all my friends to buy the game today if they wanted to play. He claimed this initial shipment is it, VU/Blizzard (or whoever) is not allowing a second batch of games to be sold until Feb. 2005. After they sell the small amount of un-reversed copies that is it. Normally I would discount this immediately, yet one of my friends from 500 miles away said he heard the same thing from his store.

So any truth to this statement? I already picked up my copy but I'm curious.

  6. So what does this translate to? on Half-Life 2 Submitted to VU For Approval · · Score: 5, Insightful

So how much longer until the game is finally released? I fear its another 2~3 weeks until this RC will become the build to go gold. And thats IF it is even accepted requiring no re-working at all. A big IF. So folks, it seems mid-November till early December is the objective. I think if the game comes in too late in December, the Holiday season sales are going to get killed. Interestingly to me, if it comes out in the November timeframe, it'll feel like the original HL coming out in late October early November of '98. I just hope the game retains a good portion of the original feel or atmosphere.
