    That's assuming that you get all of your products via apt. Does 'apt-get upgrade' fix all of those Third Party issues?

    What if you compile a third party product from a tarfile? Third party products are as common on Debian as they are on any other distro.

    Everyday it is Sun Java Desktop, which is based on UnitedLinux, which is basically Suse 8.2

    Ah, but in the past they have sold RedHat ... I think the QUBE and RAQ stuff came with a RH-based distro.

    This year at Linuxworld I was told specifically that it was not UnitedLinux but was a SuSE-based distro.

    It's hard to keep things straight...

    Today is Monday. Does that mean Sun loves Linux or hates Linux? I forget.

    More then anything, Sun's demise has to do with the fact that Sun can't figure out what they are doing, and won't stick to their decision for more then a year.

    - Is Solaris supported on Intel86 architecture or not?
    - Does Sun sell Cobalt appliances or not?
    - Does Sun resell Linux or not? Today, is it RedHat or Suse?
    - Is Java a programming language or is it a more General Product? What does "Sun Java Desktop" have to do with Java?
    - Can I redistrute the JDK with my own applications or not? Wait, just javac?
    - Is Java called 'Java', 'Java Two', 'Java one-point-two-and-above' or 'Java Five-point-oh'?
    - Where is Java installed today? /usr/j2se ? /usr/jre1.4.1_05b1? /usr/java? /usr/java1.3? C:\jdk1.4.1_03? C:\Program Files\jdk1.4.1_03??? C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04 ? (The last three all exist on my Windows box).

    Well, Switzerland has it's own questionable practices which may not make it a proper democracy.

    Women didn't have the right to vote in Switzerland until 1971. Women still couldn't vote in some Cantons until 1989!

    In the 70s, the Swiss held an "overpopulation" lottery (I think it was mostly young men). If your name was selected the Swiss government revoked your Swiss citizenship. I knew nothing about this until I visited Switzerland in 2002 during a big art festival. A large focus of the festival was getting these ex-Swiss back in contact with the Switzerland.

    Of course there are all sorts of legacy applications that are 'required' to work with this, ranging from java applications to ancient pc programs.

    You aren't giving alot of detail here. You didn't even mention your OS's.

    Are these Windows apps? Linux apps? Web apps? Apps for your WPA-enabled phone (Hey, he said Legacy :)

    Does each individual program really have it's own authentication system? If so you are in trouble. For most most legacy application, you log into Windows, then use the program. Somehow I don't think you are looking for more then just a centralized Windows network however.

    Do people need to log into a website? How about Unix servers? Unix desktops?

    Many of these politicians who have done drugs in the past say that doing drugs just once is wrong.

    This should be interesting, considering that Bush, Clinton, Gore, Schwartzenegger and a host of other polticians have smoked pot (Or in Bush's case, snorted coke); and are highly successful poeple.

    I have no doubt that Kerry also smoked pot on occasion.

    Are you intentionally trying to mislead people?

    Look, it's not very hard to show that Obama was ahead of Ryan in the polls. Go to Google. Search for "Obama Ryan Poll. At best, Ryan sometimes held a slight lead over Obama, but Ryan was never, ever a
    "shoo-in candidate".

    Ryan took himself out of the race because he was losing at the polls, because he's yet another Republican hypocrite who tries to force his morality on other people.

    That is true, but I'm just trying to point out the AC's lies.

    Clinton was still asked to move to NYC and run in the senate race. It's part of a larger strategy to give her experience, have her show some leadership in the senate and get her name out, probably in preparation for the 2008 or 2012 presidential race.

    But the Third Partys (parties?) aren't in it just for this election. They have long term goals in mind... get your name out during this election, next election maybe a bit more, if you get 5% of the vote you qualify for federal funding, etc.

    If third partys never run, we'll always be a two party system, which these days is quickly becoming a one party system.

    Alan Keyes, the Republican candidate for Senate in Illinois

    It should be noted that Alan Keyes isn't FROM Illinois, he is merely running in the Senate race. I don't think that in itself is bad, but it is probably one of the many reasons he is trailing in the polls.

    I seem to remember Keyes once saying that people from out-of-state SHOULDN'T run for a state office, but I can't find that quote now, so maybe I'm just spreading nasty rumors. But it's ok, because I fufilled my duties.

    So Alan Keyes, another Republican who wants to control things. There was once a day when Republicans were about NOT controlling things, but that time is long gone.

    We web-savvy Slashdoters all know that it's pretty easy to allow access to the HTTP & HTTPS ports and still maintain a very secure website by blocking access to all other ports.

    Unless you have some wacky scripting on the site, this level of security is trivial.

    Blocking by IP number isn't a good security solution, because the hackers can always find another security solution.
