My last camera was purely chosen for CHDK support. This means scripting and extra features on a Canon camera. I can imagine that more people want to do more than the basic press button and shoot, ok at least geeks and the industrial sector likes it.
If this kind of software was 'free' because you bought an appliance that actually should work instead of upgraded to a different set of bugs, then you might have a point... I honestly think the firmwares that are deployed lack a critical view of some outsiders, but then again I was raised with the open source spirit, Cisco bought itself into it.
Would those patents include an in hardware x86 instructionset translator to their GPU instructionset? I remember some vague comments around ~5 years ago that nVidia wanted to run an OS on their GPUs.
They tend to have a few screws loose, and would be rather unsavory even without their chicken chasing behavior. Consider the sort of people you see on Dateline.

It seems to be that some older age offenders can basically stuck in a mental image of a relationship that never take place at young age, or had serious social problems at young age that was caused by bullying. Knowing this, the affirmation that exactly this might be one of the fundamental causes of adult psychological sexual abnormalities might be a reason to not ban things as 'free hugs' in schools but actually embrace them. As you already pointed out same age relations are extremely normal so unless abnormal relations develop, stimulating them is probably the way to go here. We are talking about technology in 2009 making it easy to make photos, maybe the new love letters... who knows.

I don't spread hate about homophiles, am I sympathising with them now? I think that every paraphilia is a variation on what we in our western society accept as normal. Maybe you didn't get the point. Maybe your employers listed on your account homepage would be interested in knowing they employ someone who claims looking at anything "young with boobs", even 15 year olds, is not child pornography but "actually an extremely healthy thing."

I think the primary purpose of those photo's is not to cause sexual arousal, but rather advertise their selves. The same thing would be a short message writing "come to my house now", which is clearly not porn. Actually the statement it is porn is totally missing your argument, because if it was, porn he/she wasn't looking for hitting up at all, just advertising. Again worst case; for the actual producer it is noting more than exhibitionism.

Not true, I have the hardware still here. It was 75Hz max, if you had a monitor that could do 150Hz VSYNC.
CrystalEyes used an additional line to sync the glasses, the Asus hardware had a connector. Like the earlier Monsterboard stuff.
I still have the same 19" Sony CRT monitor, which does 120Hz for the lower resolutions without a problem. That is not really an argument. Since even older glasses of Crystal Eyes even worked with adapted games as Wolfenstein 3D at 320x240 it was also at least 60Hz per eye because for that game they used interlacing.
Games did not provide support? That is non-sense, it was part of the DirectX/OpenGL driver interface within Windows. I still remember I was playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 with my glasses on. I was way cool back then!
I have no clue how it is arranged in the USA, but in our poor country it is lumbsum + research grants. There is no such thing as getting short, because that would basically mean there are less places for research.
On the other hand if a university stimulates the economy in a good way, it can always apply for more research places based on their 'useful' output. Examples at our uni are Python, SWI-Prolog, Praat, MonetDB and some obscure Forensic stuff.
So is there a dime less going from government to those universities or is the patent portfolio actually used to say "we do good research here, give us more money"?
In The Netherlands (AMC) the cost of fMRI is about 400 euros per hour in research setup, that includes two supervisors using a 3T scanner. So if you are able to get someone really sleepy; and doesn't mind the noise it would be possible to scan for 10 hours straight; unless the device overheats of course.
Waking up with an antenna on your head might be a bit of a problem. But even after two hours in there at 10pm I didn't have any problems to close my eyes in the dark room. I would happy to volunteer for such project:)
Could you please elaborate while lets say 'some' people remove that hair with evil Brazilian waxes? Or razors... or other medieval methods because they are not adults? Or because it seems that it looks better too look 'younger'?
