This makes me wonder is Google too big to fail of the technology world - as Citibank/Bank of America/AIG are to the financial world.
Would the US government have to prop up Google and its services some day with massive bailouts because the failure of google could be catastrophic for the general public.
The cost of this failure to individual users may not be high (a few minutes of lost access to mail, a hit to efficiency because you cannot search etc etc) but the cumulative cost across the globe could be very high.
on the surface it looks simple.... but there are tons of things to consider
1. What happens if a voter presses one button many times? how do you allow one voter only one vote 2. What happens to your simple 'kiosk' when there is a power outage ? 3. How do you prevent tampering during or after voting ?
These are just a few that come to mind quickly.
So Mr. Super Software Engineer, I dont think you know what you are talking about.
In a way its true... but its not the limitation of the human brain.
Rather its the limitation of how a human can tell a computer what we want it to do. If there was some way a computer could read and understand our mind, I doubt that any average desktop (or for that supercomputer) would be able to keep up to the demands of a human brain. Human brain multitasks exceedingly... (vision, sound and millions of tactile receptors in the skin , signals from all these are processed and reacted to in realtime..... mind blowing....)
Quote *Global warming and climate change are real and undenyable. *
Is there undeniable evidence of global warming. Is there undeniable evidence that human race if the primary reason for this phenomena (if it exists!)
Is there is undeniable proof that steps being taken to reduce greenhouse gases will actually reduce greenhouse gases and will reverse global warming ?
If we lack the tools and understanding to predict weather no more than 10 days in advance for small regions, how can we even begin to understand the global level variables that affect climate over several years ?
I believe we all need to periodically re-evaluate our opinions and beliefs and also reconsider the assumptions on which those opinions and beliefs are based and not just get fixated with certain ideas.
Nothing is undeniable, nothing is certain. What you think true today can be positively wrong tomorrow. Earth is not flat, earth is not the center of the universe.
>>>>>>>>>Yes, your code will blow anything created in India out of the water,
This is the typical response of paranoid-wool-over-eyes-americans. I dont know where these people get the impression that all code from India/Indians is slow/insecure/instable ?
Tell me how long will you continue to pay for lousy product/services ? If the management doesnt care about the quality of code, it will soon be out of business. India's contribution to software has grown over the last decade simply because its good enough. If it wasnt, there is no way this trend would have continued for so many years.
The razor-blade analogy is not really applicable to iPod-iTunes.
Blades are *essential* to use the razor. And blades get consumed and have to replaced. And Razor by itself has no purpose. Its the blade which provides the value/service
iTunes is not essential to use the iPod. iPod by itself provides the value/service to the owner. That explains the high margins on iPod.
iTunes is not consumable in the sense that the songs you download dont become unusable (Though their entertainment value or may go down)
In my view razor-blade analogy does not apply to iPod-iTunes at all.

Oh Yea!! this is just a naive bickering....

dont downplay the power of human brain.

So stop deriding sofwtare from India
Does slashdot publish browser/system stats about slashdot readers ? That would make interesting reading.
Following soon would be the Google service 'Brainsense' which will show ads based on what you are thinking!
In India, driving while talking on mobile phones has been banned for a long time and this ban is enforced quite effectively.
With so much concern for road safety in the USA, its quite amazing that similar ban hasnt been enforced in USA.
