We would take the estimates, double them and add 30%, that is how I bid out all work. Now... The challenge is when you, the lead developer do not control you schedule and you are having meetings twice daily to discuss the progress. In that situation, well, it doesn't matter what the WBS says, or whether or not there is a code review, it matters that the features get done. Granted that is the anomolay for me, when it does happen, the goal is to get done and get out as quickly as I can.
Security... it is either way overdone, or it seems like it is ignored. Maybe fines are a good way to go to prevent this, but then I would also suggest that consumer sovereignty take over. Select a credit card based on the services that they provide and the track record they have in arenas that you care about (security). DON'T SELECT A CARD BECAUSE OF A SHINY ENVELOPE.
It is a little bit like the abused spouse, who keeps returning to the abuser.
The bottom line... If consumers don't use Citi-Groups cards, things will either change or the company will be deprecated.
Beyond the humor of the title, the story itself is really lacking. The combined a bunch of buzzwords: LCD, Digital Camera, Voice Recognition Software, GPS Navigation System and from that got to a point where they said. This car will not crash. I am like... How, how are you gonna do that? Feed my need for nerdy details, don't throw buzzwords at me. Make being a nerd cool again.
Install this system on every car ever made. People like to drive man! They like to drive fast, a car that won't crash won't sell.
So I read through this thread, and I read through the sites hosted by Mark Mumma. He really is very smart. Rather than put up with an industry where it is difficult to make a profit, he maintains the hosting facade and decides he wants to become a victim and start chasing ambulances. He successfully pulls it off on several occasions. Then he solicits "our $ help" because it costs a lot to fight injustices. I am all for less spam, but please don't paint yourself as a hero. What I see is that your business has a three-fold business strategy.
1. Host small businesses
2. Sue Spammers
3. solicit donations
having lived in Snohomish County, my view point: The Electronic voting machines, were terminals and each machine output a smart card and I turned in the smart card to the poll worker. You could take the record on the card and compare it to the record in the machine. But truly, then the issue becomes the integrity of the system, and I am a lot more concerned with Mail-in ballots and forgeries than i am with e-voting systems.
the benefits of e-voting so outweight the problems. Everyone seems to think it is in-secure because there were two kids in their basement with their dad's laptop and they cracked into the prototype system.
news organizations picked up on this, and it was spin city. e-voting insecure. Tonight at 11:00, who are you voting for? then suddenly we have this outbreak of paranoid housewives who now don't truse e-voting. They tell their husbands, their husband tell the co-soccer coach and on and on and on.
Let me put it this way. We trust our finances to the internet, encryption and redundancy.
I think that the reason we are so resistant to e-voting is that then there will be some accountability to the system, and accountability scares people.
You know what the funny/ironic thing is. This is all taking place before the election even happens. If you lose 58K votes, before the election, there is still a week to correct the situation.
The same thing will happen after the election and then we will have the election of 2000 all over again.
I think this might just be the justification we need to attack broward county for its rich oil deposits. We could send troops in under the guise of restoring democracy.
What if we were to fuse the radiation into glass and call them "Energon Cubes", though we can't make a huge public showing of it, otherwise those pesky autobots might show up and try and stop us, and then where are we?
Mr. Cobb,
I voted for the green party in the last election, because I wanted to get you 5% of the vote, to help create a third party system.
It seems like this election, you won't get anywhere near 5% of the vote, because democrats are so disillusioned with Bush and Republican are so concerned that their guy will lose.
What is the goal of the Green Party in this election, raise awareness, publicity, fundraising.

Is that the norm or the anomolay for others.
