The NT kernel is modular and well-design, I can't imagine that it would be more troublesome than it was for Linux (and probably significantly less work).
I have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to networking and security in NT, sure the WIN32 part is troublesome to keep secure, but NT in itself has no such problems.
Flamebait? Please mods, this is the reason slashdot is losing readership. It's difficult to have a decent discussion, when all opposing views to the group opinion (right or wrong) are essentially censored down to obscurity.

File naming protocol ------ Characters in filename names are a rare commodity, to be used wisely. Filenames should be abbreviated to the point of obfuscating any meaning: Why use "print" when you can use "prin," why use "prin" when you can use "pin," why use "pin," when you can use "xb."
Standard output formatting protocol ------ When printing a table of data to standard output, there is no need to label rows and columns. Linux users are elite professionals, they instantly know what the endless rows and columns of hex values, abbreviated acronyms, and various other standard and non-standard variables represent.
In the rare occasion that a Linux user is unsure what some data represents, he will simply view the source, if the source is not available, he will disassemble the executable, and read the assembly code.
If you must label columns and/or rows, please follow guidelines set out by the "File naming protocol" section.
Points A, and B, would have merit if they reflected the the general modding of all comments, it doesn't. If that post was referring to Windows, and not Linux, I can guarantee it would have been modded up. Have you looked at most comments on slashdot, every other post contains a personal attack, but they are usually harmless and a form of expressing disagreement, rather than true opinions of others. Only people who are hyper-sensitive would take them seriously.
In regard to point C, if you don't realize there is a overwhelming bias towards Linux and against Microsoft on slashdot, then you're plain stupid (sorry to make it personal).
As a post note: you will notice I apologized to said submitter (before you modded me down).
Well, actually it didn't come out on my summary - but I know that HP did consider Linux, but ended up not to go with it for cost reasons. I am not a Linux zealot. I don't even run Linux myself. I'm an OSX zealot.
In that case, I apologize for my slightly knee-jerk reaction.
> They probably didn't want the support burden of bundling the PC with a Linux distribution.
To Johan (the guy who wrote the summary):
Linux is a good kernel, but you're just coming of as overzealous, plain arrogant zealot when you start making excuses on behalf of a corporation you don't speak for, and have no inside knowledge of; simply because they didn't go for your kernel of choice.
Have you considered they might prefer FreeDOS, and deem it the best solution compared with other alternatives such as Linux, irregardless of this "oh, it's only because they don't want to give support, but really they love Linux just like me, someone probably put a gun to their head to make them use FreeDOS, etc, etc" bullshit that is just something out of your head.
Please stop making plain fabricated excuses to defend Linux and try to understand that not everybody thinks Linux is the answer to everything, and even if it was, they can speak for themselves without amateur pseudo-journalists like you making shit up on their behalf.
In case this is not clear: this is not an attack on Linux, it's a criticism of the submitter, who does more harm than good for Linux by spreading his own branded, unique version of FUD.

Nice idea, bad implementation.
The current implementation is annoying, and overzealous as far as I'm concerned. For instance the query "what" opens a endless drop down of suggestions, then fills in the most likely match, which almost always fails in to even approach a decent guess of the query I had in mind.
The only achievement in this case is to distract me, break my concentration from typing, and helpfully steal focus inside the query box.
Frankly, It's quicker for me to type the damn query myself, than search for the closest match in endless drop down of bad suggestions.

But you're the "smart" one for wasting time deleting stuff, only to waste more time re-downloading it later when you realise you did need it after all?
Hmm. Not sure if I agree with you there. The only thing I will agree on is that copying something you probably won't use on to CD-R is pointless.
I accidentally posted this as AC already, please mod down AC, and Mod this accordingly (if you don't believe it's my writing, please compare grammar to my previous postings):
I'm interested in precisely who is AOL's targeted demographic for this product.
The way I see it, the average totally incompetent user will just use MS Media Player given it's preinstalled, and probably does all they want (and anything it doesn't do probably won't occur to them anyway).
Then you have the more competent, slightly smarter (not that smart, still using Windows remember *cough*) user, who while looking for alternative is likely to dismiss AOL's offering simply because it's, well, made by AOL, who don't have a particularly cool aura about them. Even when their aren't good alternates around, I'd imagine even these users are more likely to stick with Media Player than migrate to AOL's You're-A-Fucking-Retard-Let-Me-Hold-Your-Hand-Whil e-People-Laugh-At-Us-Player, or they might go for WinAmp, which despite being deprecated is still popular (yes, it's owned by AOL, but I think it's still tagged NULLSOFT, which sounds better AOL/NULLSOFT? That's a rhetorical question).
The only remaining demographic is incompetent users, who choose AOL as their ISP, two problems: 1) This market is declining, especially given the fact they seem only to care about dial up users, who themselves are in rapid decline, 2) These users are the sort who use the interet at most about an hour or less a day, and are probably over 50. In short, they are the least likely people to be interested in purchasing music online.
In summary: AOL Sucks! and most people who might potentially install their product are beginning to realise they suck. Anyone left, who might install it as a tie in to this particular ISP's crap-ware, is probably not going to use it, and even less likely to purchase music from it (which is the whole point from AOL's perspective).
