Yeah, like one spyware i had on my computer. It required that i download an "uninstall" program. The uninstall program demanded that i fill out a questionare about marketing before i uninstall. I guess i answered wrong when i chose my number of aceptable ads per day because the hard disk started making a funny noise, and i could no longer boot Windows.
All voting systems should be GPLed so we can download the source, and instpect it.

We've been paid very well for what most of us know deep down is idiot work.
I think i am worth my pay, and would not be over paid even if i made 200k per year.
I am a principle programmer for a product that generates over $8 million per year. I work for a small company of 10 employees. I don't have bugs in my code because I don't just hack together code 9am to 5pm. I use design principles and unit testing to produce solid, loosly coupled, reusable code. The company would lose a LOT of money if our products crashed, or if the code was hard to maintain, debug, or extend.
Just getting something working is not the challenge. Programmers that go beyond that are worth the pay. I have worked with about 30 Indian programmers in the past, all were just getting things to work and playing lip service to "Object Oriented" technology (ie. the application itself being one huge Java class, lol). Although, I have worked with some Asian programmers and white programmers that were very good and worth a high salary.
how much of an inconvenience is it to delete unwanted email?
Spam is pure evil. Sending spam to my email account is no different that stealing the stereo from my car. If i add up the time spent dealing with spam, and bill just $10 per hour, it would lose less money having someone steal my car stereo.
When i was job junting, i missed some potential jobs because i did not find some of prospect that were lont in my spam. I should be able to sue for damages in that case.
Getting over 100 emails per day of spam is more than inconvenient. I set up an email account for my daughter with my ISP. She is a bit young to have email, but i set it up to save an email address with her first name. Nobody has ever used the account, but the account receives over 100 spam emails per day abount drugs, porn, loans, etc. The spammers scan for all accounts like commonname@myisp.com.
So, we can't have nice account names like mary@sbc.net because the spammers will abuse that account. This forces us to choose lame email accounts line mr27jx9@sbc.net.
Besides that, can you imagine how much faster the internet would be without spammers? It will only get worse if they are not stopped.
That's why all spammers must die... err... i mean get arrested.
Can someone recommend anti-spam software that works well with pop3 and Thunderbird? I tried McAfee. It only filtered about 50% of the spam. Even reporting all the missed spam to McAfee didn't help, I guess it's not a learning system. After a few monthes, i was still getting only 50% spam filtering.
Would it be legal to set up a web site where people can place a bet on a date in the calendar. Then, if a known spammer that date, the gambler wins the money? I suppose a cleaver person would figure out a way to win the money, but that would be outside the scope of the web site.
Who still buys non-electronic books in the year 2004?
I like books for when the wife says, "Get off that computer and come watch TV with me." See, she's the boss. I hate TV. At least i can read a book, and i only read technical books. She just wants proximity, so i can read while she watches TV.
I warn all you Windows users, get your computers ready for a huge increase in malware during 2005.
Congress just passed a law against SpyWare, which will not come into effect until October of 2005. It will have no effect in stopping SpyWare. It will only encourage more spyware from foreign countries. When some states started passing laws against spam email, the amount of spam just increased. Good luck with your Windows boxes.
I am getting sick and tired of fixing peoples computers that have Worms, Viruses, SpyWare, etc. All my friends and family come to me for fixes, because they keep getting malware. I hear that a lot of people just buy new computers because the cost is low for a new computer, and their Windows current Windows box has 95% of the CPU dedicated to malware, which they are powerless to remove.
Sure, a few of you Windows users know how to set up your XP with security software, and run with an account that is not Administrator. But that is not the default configuration for Windows. And, most Windows users would not know how to set up the computer in any way other than the default insecure installation.
I have been playing EQ for 5 year. I play with no sound and the lowest level of graphics detail.
The reason I play with no sound is because years ago the sound could cause problems or crash. So, i turned it off, and have never turned it on again.
The reason i play with the lowest level of graphics is so that i can run two instances of EQ. I have more than one account. One account runs a Bazaar selling character which is in a minimized EQ window. The other is the character I am actually playing. For best results I reduce all the graphics options to the lowest level.
Also, I have another computer which is fast, and has a nice graphics board with 128 megs of ram. I tried running with all the highest level of graphics options, but ultimately, in a raid situation, it's too slow. So, over time that machine got reduced to the lowest level of graphics options.
The story? What story? When i do quests i don't even talk to the NPCs. Just give my my item, thanks. I know there are some people that actually follow the story, or even try role playing. But, for the most part. EQ is not about the graphics, the sound, or even the story. It's about items, items, items, guilds, raids, items, buying, selling, items, and becoming more powerful.
So, why bother with EQ2? I guess only to reserve a good name and be one of the first.
Some people thus complain about the bootup time. ... Personally, I don't see the big deal.
I want a fast Linux boot just to shut up the Win XP users at my work that like to say they boot Windows much faster than I boot my Linux.
