We spanish people are completely fucked, this is time to start the pirate party there! I mean, EVERY political party has voted yes for this law, so we really need a new party...
Anyway, i think we can start making demonstrations. We have a good history of demonstrations: for example, now we are protesting for the high price of housing... and the propests started because ONE person started sending emails to his friends to concentrate for that. I think we can do the same for this, we have been suffering the SGAE (our particular RIAA) for too long, everyone knows they are diabolic!
I'm also spanish and i'm really really astonished with all those paranoid slashdotters. The reality is really simple: there is no 'downside' on ID Cards, because when you need to use it it's exactly because you actually need to identify yourself, so you would be traced anyway. For example: when you are buying a house, or when you are buying with a credit card. I'm just as paranoid as any other slashdotter in any other subject, like Echelon, but I just don't see the problem here!
You said that "its failing because the competition is exactly the same product with zero costs and zero investment for the 'producer'."
Well, let you remember that time, some years ago when p2p was only a dream... Yeah! people also copied tapes! I really don't know if it that was legal under the US law, but here in Spain, politicians understood what was happening and ruled a new law so copyright infringment of culture products it's only illegal if you profit from it! So long from then, no one here can be sued because of downloading or copying anything if they are not selling it.
Hell, you should remember that copyright is something very relative, and it was invented to protect culture, protecting the producers is just a side effect. Culture existed before copyright and will continue existing in spite of the MPAA.
But, i think that the most important point here is that copyright was 'invented' because law had to protect writers from the printing press owners, so they pay money to writers... because producers didnt have any other method to DISTRIBUTE their work and anyway it was damn expensive. So, now that is so easy to share their work, we shouldn't miss the point: Sharing culture shouldn't be illegal!
Hey man! What european country has less freedom than the USA? I mean, i'm spanish, and i can't bear guns so easily as you cowboys but you know that this point very is arguable as a freedom, and we always can get a license. But you people, have your "Free-Speech Zones" - which in our countries is all the territory, without exception -, you have Bush spying tons and tons of americans, you have the so easily to manipulate diebold machines in your elections -which could have been the very reason for the election of Bush for his first term-. You have Guantanamo, were every man from your country, or from the "axis of evil" (btw, LOL) can be thrown for years... And remember, here it's totally legal to download films and music from the p2p, because there is no profit.
Which freedoms were you talking about? It's too much easy to say that the USA is the reincarnation of freedom.
Well, i'm not sure if there it's legal to download a movie/music/app from the p2p even without having bought the original. But here in Spain it is absolutely legal, and i'm sure there are more countries were it's legal too.
So, I don't know why do you think it's extreme and inmoral something so arguable.
Having the fact-checked version, why bother with non accurate versions? As far as I remember, NOW, at this moment, you can become somewhat a 'gold' member. But it doesn't mean you have more privileges on accessing to the information, it only means you are contributing to the community in some way (the way the money can), so your 'work' will be recognized: your are going to be in a list.
Moreover, in Spain (this is where I am from) you are committing a crime only if what you do it for profit (and, in fact, our particular RIAA -SGAE- wants to change the meaning of profit).

Please, don't make me remember that, and btw I didn't buy it, I'm living in a rented flat...

Assume it, science keeps advancing. What part of "don't miss the point" didn't you get? I don't think you have read the whole post i wrote...
