  1. Obilgatory.... on FCC Wants to Track Wireless · · Score: -1, Redundant

    I, for one, would like to welcome our all knowing communications overlords.

  2. DRM? on Old-Fashioned DRM Protects Harry Potter Book · · Score: 1

    DRM=Digital Rights Managment. Book!=Digital

  3. University printing on Printing (Big) Manuals? · · Score: 1

    If you are at a university, or can get to one, it might be worthwhile looking around for an engineering major. As I understand it, they typically have free, unliminted printing, so if you could get one to print this for you, then all you have left to worry about is binding. This certainly works, and happens often at my school (U of Michigan) once in awhile a prof will throw a large file at you and tell you to read it, and printing it off is certainly easier for most people.

  4. Get there quickly! don't wait! on Making the Transition to University? · · Score: 1

    Skipping a year can have uninteded effects, if so far you ahve done well, the skipped year is something that a college, or company would raise an eyebrow at, and the same thing even if you aren't doing terribly well. Besides, college is one of the best experiences of your life, I wouldn't delay if I were you; far too much fun.

  5. What? on Console Players Are Pirates · · Score: 5, Insightful

    I may have missed something, but they go from talking about software to games... software is not the same as a game, and that stat seems wildly out of whack. There are a handful (at least) of hurdles that one has to overcome before being able to priate a game, and it doesn't seem like the average gamer would neccesarily also be tech savvy enough to have, and keep the motivation in order to actually pirate the material.

  6. Other possibilites on High-Capacity PCMCIA Drives for Backup? · · Score: 3, Informative

    Another possibility would be a very small external USB flash drive with very high capacity, for example http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/5ad4/.

  7. Let Google Be on Is Google Breaking Their Own Rules? · · Score: 1

    I don't understand why people insist on such scrutiny of google. We use it all the time, and for all of its history it has attempted nothing insidious or evil. Hell, look at the comapny motto - Don't be evil.

    The company has values (probably the largest company with anything resmbling nerd values) and stays on the proper side of them. They step on a few feet sure, that's what happens when you are the place people go to find things, and most ignore the rest. But the fact of the matter is, if you don't like what their tools do, don't use them. They are dedicated to search and improving the user's experience of searching (for almost anything). So why make things harder for such a large innovator in the field?

  8. YAUL- Yet Another Useless Lawsuit on NZ Business Fined For Out-of-Date Website · · Score: 2

    Next up we'll have people filing suit for personal information on blogs not being up to date. I can see it now: If I had the right screenname I would never have become an opium addicticed stripper for you! Or some other implausible lawsuit... hey maybe I can sue shashdot for something... they have money right?
