+ 5 informative? Mod the parent down! Sure, Farcry uses one giant lightmap for the whole island but it stores the texture in memory all at once, this is not what Megatexture is all about. For all the rest Crytek uses up to 8 layers of alpha blending, but you still use tiled textures, you cannot paint one big texture on the whole level terrain. Check your facts before posting.

The only news is that it's now happening in Europe.
Weird.... I know the polytechnic of Turin in Italy had the source code of windows XP from microsoft. I remember my professor telling the class that it took them around a week to compile on a pretty old pentium 4. Either he was telling lies or there is something else that is not really clear here!
  4. Re:Who cares? Stupid paper launches on ATI Launches Radeon X1900 XT and XTX · · Score: 5, Interesting

Sorry to contradict you, but this one is not going to be a paper launch, ATI is shipping around 10,000 Radeon X1900 cards today. And comparing a overclocked card with one that is not overclocked doesn't cut it, as you can still overclock the new one. (And seeing as they are using 1.1ns memory, you could easily clock the memory to at least 1600MHz DDR). The price is going to be high, that's true, but that's also because you cannot really find any 7800 GTX 512MB around! Sure you can if you want to pay around 700$-800$.

The Core Duo T2400 employs 2MB of L2 cache shared across both cores of the CPU, not 2MB per core.

Well, from the FAQ on Google talk page you can read:

"4. What other communication services will you federate with?
We look forward to federating with any service provider who shares our belief in enabling user choice and open communications. We do believe, however, that it is important to balance openness with ensuring that we maintain a safe and reliable service that protects user privacy and blocks spam and other abuses."

They will be open, but in a slow way and only if your server can be trusted!
