I haven't seen anyone "of color" in the entire computer science program at any of the three colleges that I've been at, except for four Indians, but they obviously aren't black/hispanic.
Maybe they aren't represented in the industry because they aren't entering the industry in significant numbers, but I may have just been at three colleges that were unrepresentative of the nation as a whole.
would it help if one were to develop a cross-platform, secure application for connecting to financial institutions. Maybe each institution could apply for a certificate and the application would only connect to sites that you have accounts with. Sure, there would still be ways around the security, but if people couldn't access banking via the web, but needed a separate application then maybe phishing attacks wouldn't work.
Needs a lot more thought, but maybe it's an idea.
Why not make people responsible for giving out their personal information. Seriously.
If this happens why don't we remove all personal responsibility... if I shoot someone, we can hold glock responsible... if I break into someone's house, we'll hold stanley responsible... if I hit someone with my motorcycle, we can hold suzuki responsible....
I think that this new advertising medium holds a great deal of promise for some MMO's. For example, in CoH I would be just as happy seeing a subway as I would seeing the City of Gyros ad. Now it wouldn't have a place in World of Warcraft, but any time that it is unobtrusive I welcome it, especially if the revenue goes towards future enhancement or eliminates subscriber fees.
why? it's a worthwhile piece of legislation that will make both sides happy. The gamers will still get their adult themed games, while the concerned parents don't have to worry about their children getting the games.
Once something like this goes into effect the people that complain that the games their children play are too adult will not have a leg to stand on.
if anything this is probably a good thing. If the sale of adult oriented video games is regulated then more stores will be able to carry them and more adult themes will be able to enter the games. It's similar to the situation with pornography, since the sale of pornography is restricted stores can carry pornography that is considered by many to be wildly objectionable.
Also, if legislation is introduced parents will not be able to complain when their kid has a game like GTA because they knowingly would have purchased a restricted item and given it to their kids.
The iPod is to portable media players what OS X is to Operating Systems; that is, something that doesn't get in the way of what you are trying to do, listen to music.
you're kidding me; do you really think that going behind people's backs is going to allow you to keep your job? People like that just develop the reputation as back-stabbers and aren't trusted for anything.
I hate networking too, but I love to go out... I find that I make wonderful connections when I just make my night's plans public and let everyone around me know that they can come out too. Usually, it takes 2 or 3 times before someone comes out, but then they talk about how they had a good time and more people come out. Eventually I end up not only networking, but actually gaining some friends.
Friends look out for you, people in your network only help you when asked. I'd rather end up with 10 friends in a company than a network of 100. Another nice aspect of friends is that you then have access to their network too.
I'm very opposite, I can sit and focus on a very technical task, but I can also read people very well and can lie very well too, although I refuse to lie unless my personal freedom or safety is at risk. And I have the added bonus of being highly technical so I can construct a feasible lie that will stand up to examination.
Playing the weasel's game just adds to the noise. In time I found I could just bring up a topic and share my thoughts, and the things I'd addressed would be handled.
Not only that, but the weasels no longer bothered when in my turf. They learned it was wasted effort since they couldn't get away with it, plus that I wasn't going to stab them in the back. I'd be happy to stab them in the chest, mind you! But never in the back.;-)
Thank you, finally someone in the business world with a backbone!
Instead, show you're an excellent listener to the other department heads (nod, take diligent notes, and then behind the scenes you can slaughter their absurd ideas with carefully constructed, politically correct rejections, if need be) and you'll prevail.
Why not just actually be a listener, but voice concerns rather than take the weak way out and do things behind people's backs
it's people like you that cause the business world to be so fucked. What about being up-front and honest with your business dealings. If someone is getting in the way, tell them, don't try some kind of underhanded scheme.
When I first read your post I thought that you were joking, but when I got to the end I realized that, sadly, you were serious.
exploiting a power position is no way to get ahead in the long run; Let's say Sony does pull the plug, have all of the pages that previously held their artist information have a small message that state that Sony pulled their artists due to a conflict over pricing.
When Sony realizes that they made a mistake, welcome them back with open arms with the same pricing structure as before.
If you act like too much of a prick then the other side will start gunning for you. Just look what the rest of Europe acting like pricks caused Germany to do. I'd hate to see Sony seriously gunning for the top spot in digital music distribution.
I will boycott whichever record companies decide to pull the plug on apple for not adopting variable pricing. There is plenty of music to go around, I don't need to follow the current radio trend.
And if the record companies want to make it that much trouble for me to purchase a song I'll just head back to P2P.
my VoIP service actually usually sounds better than the landline service that I previously had. I do not though that have a torrent up really kills the service and if I have torrents on a desktop and Limewire on a laptop the quality gets really bad. Maybe a separate WiFi network just for VoIP? Or some QoS, I'm sure that it'll all get worked out before it really goes commercial, that's what we're here for.

In my opinion, marijuana is way better and safer than alcohol and other drugs any day.
In my opinion, prescription pills are way better and safer than alcohol and other drugs any day.
In my opinion, sex is way better and safer than alcohol and drugs any day.
In my opinion, extreme sports are way better and safer than alcohol and drugs any day.
You'd better watch it, you yourself could be an addict :)
wouldn't it be fairly easy to set up a system that just stopped accepting data from someone who provided you with more than a few bad sections?

Tzu-kung asked, "Is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The Master said, "Is not Reciprocity such a word?"

I'm a geek, but I take no bullshit, what are you going to do when you run into me?

wow, and I thought that I was the only one to suggest those :)
anyone who wants to be the Alpha has already conceded that they are not and never will be.
For real world examples look at November 1914 and what it led to in 1945.

yes, of course it would boost iPod sales, but it doesn't make a profit on its own.
