    Using PDO isn't sufficient. You also have to bind all your values/parameters. Just sticking variables into the SQL statement wont' save you.

    Then there's the extra round trip performance overhead of using a prepared statement if created in PHP and not saved in MySQL.

    IANAP, but it's quite simple. Every time alternating current changes direction, some energy is lost to overcome the capacitance in the wires.

    But when it comes to cost, the equipment to change AC voltage is much simpler/cheaper than the equipment for DC. So it's a trade off of the money saved through increased efficiency and additional equipment costs.

    I'm 28, and for me, it was Voyager. Putting a man on the moon is cool (and expensive!), but seeing and learning more of the solar system makes Voyager more inspiring to me.

    A proper webserver only needs 1 thread per core. Each socket/connection should only consume a few KB of RAM at most. A webserver shouldn't use more than a couple dozen MB of RAM at most, not including the OS file system cache. Look into Nginx or Lighttp.

    Happiness, sadness, shock or surprise, and worry or concern or displeasure.

    Interestingly, I don't have much trouble with Western smilies. Eastern smilies are a mystery. It could be because I look at people's mouths and not their eyes like most people, and Asians (and thus Eastern smilies) express emotion with the eyes.

    As an aspie, and someone who has partial face blindness and trouble recognizing facial expression of emotions, I'd find such research interesting as a learning tool. For instance, I can't tell the difference between fear and anger. Nor did I recognize the surprised face in the article. I just don't "see" it like other people do. If we can more precisely quantify the expression of emotion, it would certainly help me learn read and differentiate emotions when necessary.

    I recently bought new motherboard, and the Nvidia drivers wouldn't work in Linux. Not at all. It would practically lock the system with interrupts (it would pin one cpu core dealing with them). I even tried a completely different Nvidia card, working in another system. Same thing.

    I then bought an AMD card. And it just worked.

    AMD/ATI is worth looking at now.

    I actually went WinME -> Win2K back in the day for stability. Win2K is still my favourite doze flavour. It does everything necessary but nothing more.
